Is undo-tree dependency strictly necessary
by Leo Alekseyev 21 Jul '12

21 Jul '12

I was wondering if undo-tree is only there to match Vim behavior, and if I could use Evil without it. I actually find built-in Emacs undo functionality intuitive and I'm used to how it operates. On the other hand, I've run into some cases where undo-tree didn't behave as expected. If there are no ill consequences in using original Emacs undo vs undo-tree, it would be nice if it were configurable. --Leo P.S.: Thanks Frank and Vegard for quick bug-fixing action!

by Michael Markert 29 Jan '12

29 Jan '12

Hi list, I want to direct your attention to this issue I created last week: https://github.com/timcharper/evil-surround/issues/5 As Tim I'm not sure who's the guilty but if evils line text object behaves faulty that's bad. So please have a look at it. Thanks, Michael

Question about strict vim compatibility
by Eric S Fraga 27 Jan '12

27 Jan '12

Hello, >From what I understand, evil strives to be, as much as possible, identical in behaviour to vim. I am wondering whether this need always be the case? My query is related to something that has bothered me a long time in vi (and descendents): 'de' and 'dw' behave differently from 'ce' and 'cw' with respect to whitespace that may be present between the current word and the next. It would be nice to have 'cw' behave analogously to 'dw' and actually replace the whitespace as well... But I do appreciate the desire to be compatible... ;-) -- : Eric S Fraga (GnuPG: 0xC89193D8FFFCF67D) in Emacs 24.0.90.1 + No Gnus v0.18

[PATCH] Support for :file command
by Sanel Zukan 26 Jan '12

26 Jan '12

Hi all, In attachment is a patch to support correct ':file' command, that should provide basic information about file. Current implementation in Evil is alias to ':files', which will incorrectly display available buffers. I tried to match Vim's output as much as possible. Also, I'm not sure does Evil already provides some facilities for querying file informations so I used Emacs api. Feel free to adjust it :) Please let me know if something breaks. PS: should I fill issue for this request? Regards, Sanel

Evil and cua global mark
by Alan Schmitt 26 Jan '12

26 Jan '12

Hello, I just discovered the global mark from cua, and find it very useful. Unfortunately, to use it I must switch to Emacs state, otherwise my movements (j,k,…) are sent to the mark. Are there plans to make Evil compatible with it? Thanks, Alan

shift-TAB in normal mode appears broken in terminal
by Leo Alekseyev 26 Jan '12

26 Jan '12

I've been having trouble with TAB and shift-TAB keys when running Evil in a terminal. I use these for org-outline-cycling, and given the amount of time I spend in org-mode, they are important to me. I undefined the TAB key using Frank's recipe from a couple of weeks ago, but I can't figure out what's going on with shift-TAB in normal mode. C-h k reports it as ESC, but IIRC it's a known bug. Can anyone shed light on the issue? --Leo

evil-set-initial-state not working for several modes
by Leo Alekseyev 19 Jan '12

19 Jan '12

I have the following lines in my .emacs: (evil-set-initial-state 'magit-status-mode 'emacs) (evil-set-initial-state 'magit-log-edit-mode 'emacs) (evil-set-initial-state 'shell-mode 'emacs) as well as other initial-state directives, but these in particular don't seem to work. All these modes start in the normal state. I suspect this is a bug; can somebody confirm it and/or give any bug-hunting advice? --Leo
