evil-set-initial-state not working for several modes
I have the following lines in my .emacs: (evil-set-initial-state 'magit-status-mode 'emacs) (evil-set-initial-state 'magit-log-edit-mode 'emacs) (evil-set-initial-state 'shell-mode 'emacs) as well as other initial-state directives, but these in particular don't seem to work. All these modes start in the normal state. I suspect this is a bug; can somebody confirm it and/or give any bug-hunting advice? --Leo

Interestingly, I only have these two: (evil-set-initial-state 'Deft-mode 'emacs) (evil-set-initial-state 'Bselect-mode 'emacs) and they don't seem to work either. Alan

I found the cause of my problem: the names should not be capitalized. Is it really necessary to distinguish `Deft-mode` from `deft-mode` ? Alan

Well: ELISP> 'deft-mode deft-mode ELISP> (eq 'Deft-mode 'deft-mode) nil The reader is not case insensitive. And for sure: That's no evil issue. Michael

I agree, I was just surprised by the discrepancy between 'deft-mode and 'Deft-mode-hook, for instance. And I wanted to record the solution to my problem, if someone searches for it. Alan

Oh, I thought you meant that `evil-set-initial-state' is somehow broken. In this case: It's good to mention it :) Michael

From when is your evil version? magit-status-mode has been a long time in evil-emacs-state-modes and starts correctly in emacs state here. evil-set-initial-state is working here, too .. maybe update your version? Michael
Indeed, with the latest sources everything works Vegard committed a bugfix (commit 7a774a3ee) a week ago; looks like that took care of it. On Tue, Jan 10, 2012 at 8:35 AM, Michael Markert <[email protected]> wrote:

A related question: my evil-emacs-state-modes includes "bbdb-mode" yet bbdb always starts in normal mode, not emacs. I am up to date with respect to evil (as of this morning). Could the order in which bbdb and evil get loaded by emacs affect this? Or am I missing something? Thanks, eric -- Eric S Fraga (GnuPG: 0xC89193D8FFFCF67D)

I am not familiar with bbdb-mode. Could you please create an issue at https://bitbucket.org/lyro/evil/issues and explain how to bring up a buffer in bbdb-mode? -- Vegard
