evil interferes with describe-key in Emacs 24
by Sarah Brofeldt 06 Jan '12

06 Jan '12

When evil is enabled, C-h k M-w gives me "M-w is undefined". If I disable evil with C-z, it works as expected again. This may be Mac-only behavior, I guess. -- Sarah

Missing \C-^ mapping
by Nikolai Weibull 05 Dec '11

Hi! The \C-^ mapping for switching to the alternate buffer is missing. I tried implementing it, but I gave up, sorry. Also, # and % don’t work in ex.

evil-surround and evil-leader are available through el-get
by Natan Yellin 02 Nov '11

02 Nov '11

Hi all, evil-surround and evil-leader are now available through el-get, the awesome meta package manager for emacs <https://github.com/dimitri/el-get>. The recipes are available on master. For those new to el-get, you can easily install a package with: M-x el-get-update el-get ;; update el-get's list of recipes > M-x el-get-install evil-leader > Are there other evil extensions you want packaged? Can't be bothered to do it yourself? Feel free to send me an email. Cheers, Natan -- blog: http://natanyellin.com <http://natanyellin.com/>twitter: @aantn <http://twitter.com/aantn>

\C-^ gets confused after having run an ex command
by Nikolai Weibull 31 Oct '11

Hi! It seems that \C-^, evil-buffer, gets confused after having run an ex command, as, it seems, it tries to use the latest ex command as the buffer to switch to.

Behavior of M doesn't match Vim's
by Chun-Yu Shei 31 Oct '11

31 Oct '11

Hi, I was actually going to report a couple of other bugs/issues, but it looks like they've recently been fixed (lack of `. and dw sometimes deleting newline). :) So, the only small issue left for me is that the M key doesn't behave the same as Vim's when you don't have a full page of text on screen. Vim will move the cursor to the middle of the actual text, whereas Evil always tries to move it to the exact vertical center of the window. In extreme cases, when the amount of text is less than 1/2 screen, M and L do the same thing in Evil. Is this something that can easily be fixed? Thanks for all the awesome work! Chun-Yu

evil: mode line tags and state echoing
by Frank Terbeck 31 Oct '11

31 Oct '11

Hey there, I just stumbled across evil for emacs. And I like it. I'm actually surprised with how much I like it out of the box... There was one thing though, the mode line tags, which didn't quite fit into my existing mode line setup. I looked into it and thought I needed to use `evil-put-property' to alter that stuff. But when I used `evil-get-property' to take a look at which value was looked up, I found that there was a variable in place already; namely `evil-*-state-tag'. So, not I can just do: (setq evil-normal-state-tag "(n)") which is great. I'm not sure if that's the intended way, though, because I didn't find this in the documentation (I may have missed it, of course). I guess my real question is: Will the `evil-*-state-tag' stuff be a stable way to configure this? (Because I don't like changing my setup all the time for no apparent reason.) The second thing is the echoing of "--- INSERT ---" etc. in the mini-buffer when changing states. I understand that it's vim-ish, but it distracts me little too much. It'd be great if that could be made optional. Here's a patch which does the trick (although I'm not sure I caught all places): >From 783d2a661515d0e9e59d8dbefff3698be5842cc9 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Frank Terbeck <ft(a)bewatermyfriend.org> Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2011 20:57:09 +0200 Subject: [PATCH] Introduce `evil-echo-state' to suppress state changes being echoed Signed-off-by: Frank Terbeck <ft(a)bewatermyfriend.org> --- evil-core.el | 3 ++- evil-vars.el | 5 +++++ evil-visual.el | 2 +- 3 files changed, 8 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/evil-core.el b/evil-core.el index b2900aa..84badc6 100644 --- a/evil-core.el +++ b/evil-core.el @@ -872,7 +872,8 @@ If ARG is nil, don't display a message in the echo area.%s" name doc) (redisplay))) ,@body (run-hooks ',entry-hook) - (when (and arg (not evil-locked-display) ,message) + (when (and arg (not evil-locked-display) + evil-echo-state ,message) (if (functionp ,message) (funcall ,message) (evil-echo ,message)))))))) diff --git a/evil-vars.el b/evil-vars.el index cbdd658..15074f4 100644 --- a/evil-vars.el +++ b/evil-vars.el @@ -149,6 +149,11 @@ which causes the parenthesis to be highlighted." :type 'function :group 'evil) +(defcustom evil-echo-state t + "If non-nil (default), echo state in the minibuffer." + :type 'boolean + :group 'evil) + (defcustom evil-complete-previous-func (lambda (arg) (let ((dabbrev-search-these-buffers-only (list (current-buffer))) diff --git a/evil-visual.el b/evil-visual.el index b72d00e..248063e 100644 --- a/evil-visual.el +++ b/evil-visual.el @@ -230,7 +230,7 @@ If MESSAGE is given, display it in the echo area." evil-find-skip-newlines
by damien.thiriet77 25 Oct '11

Hello, I have got some trouble with the evil-find-skip-newlines function. Athough I set (setq evil-find-skip-newlines t) (require 'evil) (evil-mode 1) in my .emacs, f and t don’t look further than the current line. Is it because of a bad elisp syntax in my .emacs? Another trouble is connected with undo. When using auctex macros, if I type u by mistake (which is unfortunately not rare when using my laptop without typematrix keyboard), so that this sequence disappears: \begin{itemize} \item bar \item<2> foo \end{itemize}, after pressing . to have undo cancelled, I get just bar foo back. Is there a way to recover everything? Thanks, Damien Une messagerie gratuite, garantie à vie et des services en plus, ça vous tente ? Je crée ma boîte mail www.laposte.net

Searching for the visual selection in evil

Does anyone know how to search for the visual selection or yanked text? The vim trick of / C-r 0 to search for yanked text doesn't work. - Tom

Re: implementations-list Digest, Vol 36, Issue 14
by Neeraj Sharma 21 Oct '11

Thanks Frank and take your time with the fix :). I have filed the bug here https://bitbucket.org/lyro/evil/issue/23/problems-with-tag-text-object for tracking. I have couple of other questions and I apologize in advance if they are documented somewhere already, 1. I am sure there would be a simple way to avoid certain key bindings from evil. I prefer to map out Alt-. (which on emacs is search-tag) and related mappings from evil to emacs default. Currently I am messing around with evil-map.el everytime I do a sync. I am sure there is a better way. 2. How do I make certain modes to not appear in vi modes. For example I use gtags-mode and when in Gtags-Select mode (where it shows the list of matching tags), it defaults to vi normal mode (which I'd be fine with except pressing enter in vi normal mode does not go to the tag in source file). Currently I have to do C-z to go to emacs-mode and then press enter etc. Thanks & Regards, Neeraj Sharma On Wed, Oct 19, 2011 at 3:00 AM, < implementations-list-request(a)lists.ourproject.org> wrote: > Send implementations-list mailing list submissions to > implementations-list(a)lists.ourproject.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > > https://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/implementations-list > > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > implementations-list-request(a)lists.ourproject.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > implementations-list-owner(a)lists.ourproject.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of implementations-list digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1.
