getting evil-mode to interact well with slime-repl-mode
by Chris Rosengren 05 Dec '11

05 Dec '11

Over the last few weeks I have been learning elisp and implementing hooks into slime-mode so that vim bindings feel more natural there. Here is an example (defun slime-repl-bol-insert () (interactive) (slime-repl-bol) (evil-insert 1) Then I would add this too a slime-repl-mode-hook (define-key evil-normal-state-map "I" 'slime-repl-bol-insert) I'm attempting to make all commands such as I, 0, etc work to the start of the REPL prompt rather than the beginning of the line. I think this has implications not only for repl/inferior modes but dired/term/eshell modes as well. I have two questions, is this general approach i'm taking reasonable - defining functions that overwrite the generic bindings, and adding them in hooks to slime-mode/eshell-mode etc? the second question that I'm having a hard time with involves making dd and yy work correctly, I have browsed the source and it seems they are implemented in motions involving moving to the next line -> what would be a reasonable solution to get say dd to delete everything on a line except the prompt, and yy to yank everything on a line except the prompt. Thanks for the great work with evil-mode

Evil and MuMaMo
by Natan Yellin 23 Nov '11

Has anyone successfully configured Evil for nxhtml's MuMaMo? (Multiple major modes.) MuMaMo keeps switching to insert mode when I move from one mode to another. Natan -- blog: http://natanyellin.com <http://natanyellin.com/>twitter: @aantn <http://twitter.com/aantn>

Bug: surround-read-tag matches wrong tag when there is mixed content
by Christoph LANGE 22 Nov '11

22 Nov '11

Dear evil-surround developers, I think I found a bug in surround-read-tag; well, I think that's the movement function that is bound to the key sequence "st". I'm using the latest versions of evil and of evil-surround. First a simple example that works; "|" indicates the cursor position. <simple>te|xt</simple> cstt and then "foo" RET results, as expected, in |<foo>text</foo> In mixed XML content, i.e. elements that contain elements as well as plain text, it doesn't work. Example 1: Given: <outer><inner>te|xt</inner> other text</outer> Input: cstt and then "foo" RET Expected: <outer>|<foo>text</foo> other text</outer> Actually: <outer><foo><inner>text</inner></foo></outer> and you see that the first press of the "t" key already deletes the "other text". Example 2: Given: <outer><inner>text</inner> other |text</outer> Input: cstt and then "foo" RET (same as example 1) Expected: |<foo><inner>text</inner> other text</outer> Actually: <outer><foo><inner>text</inner></foo></outer> (same as example 1) Cheers, Christoph -- Christoph Lange, http://www.facebook.com/ch.lange, Skype duke4701

Toggling evil-local-mode off when updating buffers with magit
by Nikolai Weibull 22 Nov '11

22 Nov '11

Hi! Magit-refresh does the following: Refresh current buffer to match repository state. Also revert every unmodified buffer visiting files in the corresponding directory. When I run this command after some changes have actually been made to files that a buffer is visiting, those buffers are reverted. When this happens, it seems that evil-local-mode becomes disabled: Toggling evil-local-mode off; better pass an explicit argument. What’s going on? This is at master.

Configuring Evil - disable arrow keys and movement line by line?
by Chris Lott 21 Nov '11

21 Nov '11

In my normal .gvimrc I have disabled arrow keys using the following (grabbed from the web somewhere): "disable arrow keys so I am forced to use the 'real' movement keys inoremap <Up> <NOP> inoremap <Down> <NOP> inoremap <Left> <NOP> inoremap <Right> <NOP> noremap <Up> <NOP> noremap <Down> <NOP> noremap <Left> <NOP> noremap <Right> <NOP> And I have mapped keys so that movement is visual line by line (since I usually work in a wrapping mode where each paragraph is a line): nnoremap j gj nnoremap k gk vnoremap j gj vnoremap k gk Can I do the equivalent in Evil somehow? c -- Chris Lott

visual-line-mode and evil
by Titus von der Malsburg 14 Nov '11

14 Nov '11

Hi list, I'm using visual-line-mode and like it very much (no more M-q or gqap). However, commands like dd now delete whole paragraphs instead of just the current line. Also selecting lines in visual mode doesn't work as expected. My question: is there a way to make evil behave in the usual way when using visual-line-mode? Thanks for any advice! Titus

Exit from visual state breaks dot repeation
by York Zhao 11 Nov '11

11 Nov '11

So, I just noticed this problem. Here is the steps to reproduce it: 1. "i" 2. Type something, e.g., type foo 3. Esc 4. Press . will repeat the insertion of "foo" which is good. 5. "v" to enter visual state, then "Esc" to exit. 6. Press "." and I expect "foo" to be inserted but nothing happened. York,

"org-sort" doesn't work in evil
by York Zhao 09 Nov '11

09 Nov '11

I just noticed this problem and have confirmed by using "make emacs". The problem is that in org-mode, if you select a region of headlines and use "org-sort" on the region, the headlines will be sorted but the sorted headlines will be combinded into one line. For example, I have the following text: *** headline b *** headline a I select these two lines by moving the point to the first line, then "V", "j", and "M-x org-sort", the result will be: *** headline a *** headline b When it shoud be: *** headline a *** headline b However, if I place the point on the first line and use "C-SPC", DOWN, DOWN, LEFT it will work fine. How easy would it be to add a comment selector?
by Nikolai Weibull 07 Nov '11

07 Nov '11

I was thinking that it would be nice to, for example, be able to type gqac and have the current comment be formatted. I don’t know Emacs well enough to set this up, however, and was wondering if anyone had any input on this. Thanks!
