I’m curious if people here are familiar with the Gapminder Worldview Upgrader educational tool and, if so, what your opinions are about it? Request for educational resources and literature
by Radhika Mittal 03 Feb '22

03 Feb '22

Dear all, I am supervising a student who is working on a thesis examining the response indigenous communities of La Guajira have to green energy discourses in the media. Can anyone suggest literature pertaining to investigations that revolve around how media constructs notions of development based on hegemonic economic activities/indicators? Additionally pointing to literature that details how communities construct multi-dimensional views of development that challenge traditional development discourses would also be very helpful. Thank you! Fwd: Anti-racist education survey - English, French, Spanish and Portuguese
by Ashish Kothari 03 Feb '22

03 Feb '22

Dear friends, pl. see below/attached, and do respond to David if you have anything along the lines of what he is requesting. Pl. respond directly to him, not on these lists! thanks ashish -------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Anti-racist education survey - English, French, Spanish and Portuguese Date: Thu, 3 Feb 2022 17:32:54 +0000 From: David Archer <David.Archer(a)actionaid.org> To: ashishkothari(a)riseup.net <ashishkothari(a)riseup.net> Hi Ashish Good to see and hear you today – the Global Tapestry of Alternatives is a source of great inspiration. Attached is our call for participation in a global survey of anti-racist education initiatives – with the survey embedded as a link – in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Please do forward to anyone you think may be interested to share their experiences! The deadline is 28^th February. Further details are in the emails below. Hope to keep in touch – the dialogue today was a great start. Take care David *From:*David Archer *Sent:* 01 February 2022 15:52 *To:* David Archer <David.Archer(a)actionaid.org> *Cc:* antiracistpubliceducation(a)gmail.com *Subject:* Anti-racist education survey - French, Spanish and Portuguese Dear colleagues Thanks to everyone who has supported our anti-racist education survey being undertaken with the School of Education at the University of Bristol. We have had very positive feedback from the initial circulation of the call for participation and we have already collected details of 74 anti-racist education initiatives from all around the world. However we are keen to collect more responses from diverse language communities- so we have *extended the deadline to 28^th February* and we have *translated the call for participation and the survey itself into French, Spanish and Portuguese *(language versions attached). We would really appreciate your help in completing this survey or distributing on to others the attached language versions of the call for participation (each of which embeds a link to the short survey in that language). We are interested to hear about anything from * small grassroots interventions to national or even international programmes *– whether organised by governments, civil society organisations, teachers, students or any other actor. Take care David *David Archer* /Head of Participation and Public Services/ *ActionAid* Mobile +44 7595 106400 Twitter: @DavidArcherAA Skype: aai_davida *From:*David Archer *Sent:* 15 December 2021 12:00 *To:* David Archer <David.Archer(a)actionaid.org> *Cc:* 'antiracistpubliceducation(a)gmail.com' <antiracistpubliceducation(a)gmail.com> *Subject:* Global survey of anti-racist education practices and initiatives Dear colleagues There is an urgent need to address the structural and everyday racism that exists in education systems across the world. Black, Indigenous and minority ethnic children are being systematically failed by schooling systems. Curriculum often fails to represent and affirm the diversity of language and culture. School practices can reproduce rather than challenge racial hierarchies. The inequitable financing and marketisation of school systems entrench racialised segregation and exclusion. Racism takes different forms around the world: anti-Blackness, communalism, casteism, Islamophobia, and so on – but now is the time to build global awareness of efforts to imagine and create public education systems that can confront racism in /all /its forms. ActionAid is pleased to announce a new advocacy initiative <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3cTfwh8glI>on anti-racist education that seeks to build mutual learning and solidarity between grassroots education movements and initiatives internationally. This is rooted in long-term work with Black and Indigenous activists, networks, and young people who are leading anti-racist education interventions in Brazil (see the partner logos below). To complement and to dialogue with that work, we are partnering with a team at the School of Education, University of Bristol, to map, elevate and connect anti-racist education practices, initiatives and actors across the world. Whether you are a student or youth activist, a teacher, a campaigner, a government official, a practitioner, an academic or an advocate we want to hear from you about your practical experiences in advocating for or advancing anti-racist public education.Help us learn about the important anti-racist work that has been going on in your schools, communities, organisations, unions or countries. Please fill in this short survey <https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1w1tMM-ZRVYvG34gsTfYjcSBCE5TDgVtEkA2hcnu4yS…> and use it to also register your interest in being part of this global initiative for anti-racist education over the coming years. */Please respond to this call for participation by 25^th January 2022 at the latest – but we would particularly appreciate responses before the end of December 2021 /* For further information please contact: Arathi Sriprakash -University of Bristol - antiracistpubliceducation(a)gmail.com <mailto:[email protected]> David Archer – ActionAid - david.archer(a)actionid.org <mailto:[email protected]> // Take care David *David Archer* /Head of Participation and Public Services/ *ActionAid* Mobile +44 7595 106400 Twitter: @DavidArcherAA Skype: aai_davida
