Well, in my experience I've not heard of any uni enforcing its rights and restricting authors (I'm sure it's happened to someone, somewhere though :P). Sorry Mathieu, I'm, a little unclear on what you meant by 'now it just says "all pubs in public domain"' - what says that? JoPP? Hi Mathieu What's JoPP's current arrangement with copyrights - is there a current arrangement? I'm guessing that authors don't agree to anything when they submit an article to JoPP. We'll need to implement something for the future - but also need to work on what to do with work that's already been published. To add complexity to the situation it's usual for universities to own the IP in academics' work. I spoke to a colleague who manages an online journal that is registered with DOAJ, and their (c) statement is quite brief but might provide a template? http://shimajournal.org/index.php cheers steve On Thu, Aug 17, 2017 at 11:46 AM, Mathieu ONeil <mathieu.oneil(a)anu.edu.au> wrote: > Hi all, again > > > To help move things along here are the two places on the journal site > where text could be amended. Last Days - Training School, Madeira, 20-24 November - "On the collaborative economy. Learning from critical perspectives"
by Maurizio Teli 09 Aug '17

09 Aug '17

Dear all there are still two days to apply for the Training School "On the collaborative economy. Learning from critical perspectives" that will take place in Madeira from the 20th to the 24th of November. The TS combines contributions from design, social sciences, and literature, in an effort to provide PhD students and early career researchers with the coordinates to frame research and design projects related to the collaborative economy in a wide perspective. It does so by mixing lectures by established academics and hands-on activities to critically interrogate platform capitalism and to learn about research strategies for investigating and promoting the collaborative economy. Lecturing and hands-on activities will be complemented by group discussions, moderated by instructors, on the research projects of the participants in order to stimulate a lively intellectual exchange among the participants. Participants coming from countries participating in the COST Action CA16121, "From Sharing to Caring: Examining Socio-Technical Aspects of the Collaborative Economy", whose applications for participation are accepted, may receive financial contribution in the form of a COST Trainee Grant up to €550 per person (for a maximum of 26 participants). This will support the cost of travel, accommodation and meals. There are no participation fees. Deadline for application is August 11th, 2017. You can find more information at this webpage: https://sharingandcaringcostaction.wordpress.com/activities/training-school… Early-career researchers are encouraged to apply. Anybody else is invited to share this email with anybody who can be interested. PDF versions of articles
by Mathieu ONeil 13 Jun '17

Hi Peter, maxigas, all Last October we had a discussion about the desirability of having JoPP listed in places such as the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). One of the questions applicants to DOAJ need to answer is whether they provide PDF versions of articles. It was decided to delay application to DOAJ until PDFs were back in play (to avoid having to modify the application (I admit I don't know for sure how complicated that would be)). In any case - as Zack and I are currently preparing the release of JoPP#10 I thought it was a good opportunity to enquire about this: is there any chance we might have something in place in time for the upcoming release? cheers, Mathieu

JoPP#10

Hi I will post the following to citasa, ict & society, acs, fibreculture Can someone else please post to nettime and air - anywhere else also (p2p?) - just signal here, thanks! cheers Mathieu =-=-=-= [Apologies for multiple posts] We are delighted to announce the release of Journal of Peer Production #10: "Peer production and work" http://peerproduction.net/issues/issue-10-peer-production-and-work/ Issue editors: Mathieu O’Neil (University of Canberra) and Stefano Zacchiroli (University Paris Diderot and Inria) The increasing production of value by entities which are not compensated for their labour means the ranks of unemployed people keep growing. We often confuse being ‘unemployed’ with being ‘unworked’, but what it really means is that we are ‘unwaged’. There is a lot of work to be done, but for that to happen it needs to be separated from employment. Where does peer production fit in? The passionate labour and abjuration of exclusive property rights over the goods they produce of participants in peer projects occur at the expense of less fortunate others, who do not have the disposable income, cultural capital, or family support to engage in unpaid labour. On the other hand, we should avoid an overly ‘capitalocentric’ view of the economy. New forms of solidarity can be imagined. An increasingly large free public goods and services sector could well cohabit in a plural economy with employment in cooperatives, paid independent work, and the wage-earning of the commercial sector. The peer-reviewed articles in this tenth issue of the Journal of Peer Production explore such emerging assemblages through case studies of an online encyclopedia, a herbarium, a scientific project, mathematical schoolbooks, and ‘maker’ activities. The Editorial Section addresses the interplay of capital and commons in firms and peer projects. It argues that it is time for the Journal of Peer Production to move beyond an exclusive focus on DIY institutions, in order to research and develop the culture and regulations and which can grow the commons. EDITORIAL SECTION Making Lovework: Editorial Notes Mathieu O’Neil, Stefano Zacchiroli >From the Commons to Capital: Red Hat, Inc. and the Business of Free Software Benjamin J.
