Hi, I would like to sponsor Leandros Savvides as a new editorial board member for JoPP. I have inserted his presentation below, and he subscribes to the list if you want to ask questions to him. Johan Hi everyone, My name is Leandros Savvides, I have recently finished my PhD on the politics and material hacking of 3D printing, composed of ethnographic vignettes from a variety of hackerspaces across UK, Germany, Cyprus. I have presented a couple of times at the FOSS conference in Gothenburg (2015, 2016) and my research interests are revolving around Political Economy of Technoscience, Ethnographies of Hardware and Material Culture from a broad (or sometimes strict) Marxist perspective. I come from social and political theory towards Technoscience, so my work is heavily influenced as such. At the moment I am making a living as a lecturer in Business Management at Global College in Nicosia, Cyprus. However, I would like to keep in touch and get involved more on the aforementioned areas. At the moment I am in the process of working on some papers that I draw from my thesis. So, I could publish and review papers and/or books as well for the community. I am also interested to take part in organising conferences and meetings if this is something you are searching for prospective editors. Thanks in advance, Leandros Savvides

Building commons-based alternatives: A workshop and a conference in Epirus, GR
by Vasilis Kostakis 30 Jan '20

30 Jan '20

Dear all, I am sharing two open calls about a workshop and a conference that will be taking place in Tzoumerka, Epirus <https://www.travelstyle.gr/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/tzoumerka-800x600.jpg> in May 2020. The mountainous Epirus is a previously unspoiled region in Greece that is gearing up for engaging in fossil fuel extraction. Epirus is home to several Natura areas. However, it is also part of a baffling nation-wide search for oil deposits across multiple aquatic and forest ecosystems. The shady proceedings endorsed by all governments of the past years have understandably outraged local communities across the country, which see not only their livelihoods threatened but the well-being of future generations. So, the aim of the workshop is to confront oil drilling activities in Epirus by manufacturing small-scale renewables based on digital commons with local communities. The workshop is titled "Transforming Energy Systems in the Commons Era" and for the open call see here <http://www.p2plab.gr/en/archives/1873>. The second open call concerns the annual *ephemera* conference that will also be taking place in Tzoumerka. *ephemera* is an independent open access journal which has been active for almost two decades with extensive dedicated readership. This year's conference is an attempt to connect with communities, initiatives and activists working on social change and focus on empirical research working towards postcapitalist imaginaries. For more details see here <http://www.ephemerajournal.org/events/materialities-and-socialities-postcap…>. Please consider joining us and share the calls accordingly! All the best, Vasilis -- Vasilis Kostakis Professor of P2P Governance, TalTech Faculty Associate, Harvard University Founder, P2P Lab

Maybe of interest to some... submit to open panel on Marxism and STS at the EASST/4S-conference! Marxist STS EASST/4S open panel #107, Prague, 18-21 august Johan Söderberg (Göteborg University), Maxigas (Lancaster University / University of Amsterdam), and Davide Orsini (Mississippi State University) The historical roots of STS go back to Marxism. Many of the issues currently being debated in relation to technology and science begun as debates in-between Marxist intellectuals, notably concerning the status of science and ideology critique. By returning to this history and to Marxist theoretical resources, new insights can be gained when addressing STS questions. This panel invites presentations exploring the Marxist roots of STS as well as new, theoretical work broadly inspired by Marxism. Keywords: Capitalism, Ideology, Critique, Marxism, Class Categories: Knowledge, Theory and Method, Economics, Markets, Value/Valuation OBS.: Deadline 29th February. https://easst.net/easst-4s-2020/
