Future plans

Hi all It has been a while since we discussed future issues and content. To sum up where we are: FLOSS (F/OSS?) special issue Maurizio and Vincenzo are on schedule Release date: June 2013/July 2013 Debate: yes, they have some people lined up though not sure how advanced this is @Maurizio and Vincenzo: any updates most welcome Interviews: looking for suggestions. @Maurizio and Vincenzo: I have an idea. I attended an "open source" conference a while ago and there was a lawyer for the FSF there who does copyleft enforcement - if copyleft is threatened he sues or threatens to sue. I see this as a good example of someone concretely extending the (digital) commons. If you think this is a good idea we could organise an email interview. Value/Currency special issue Francesca recently joined Nate and Nicolás Mendoza to coordinate. They are aiming to release a CFP before the end of the year, which they will circulate on this list for comments. Release date: December 2013/January 2014 Comments/debate:? Interviews:? Other Special issues: Johan has been in touch with some Swedish people who are interested in doing a special issue on piracy Possible release date: June 2014/July 2014? Comments/debate:? Interview:? Organisation special issue, coordinated by Dariusz, Mayo, and Mathieu No progress on CFP - I guess I'm happy that others are leading the way Possible release date: December 2014/January 2015? Comments/debate:? Interview:? Other special issues:? If anyone has any ideas for debates and interviews (not necessarily related to content of special issue) please let it be known. It really is quite open... There is still the surveys.peerproduction site to link to and interview. Could fit into the FLOSS issue maybe? Re.the hackerspace documentation subproject, no-one on this list has expressed interest so far and since I can't take the lead for the moment it appears to be on hold. @Clément: it will happen eventually, not right now I guess. That's all I can think of, cheers Mathieu -- ****

Re: [JoPP-Public] Empty "About" page

HI Christian, all I went with option one and created a "mission statement" subpage, then starting putting links on the about page. However I ran into the WordPress Wall Of Inscrutability and Frustration and despite my best efforts the "mission statement" subpage won't appear in the menu. @Franco: could you please have a look and help with this? many thanks. cheers Mathieu On 10/31/12, Christian Siefkes <christian(a)siefkes.net> wrote: > Hi Mathieu and all, > > On 10/28/2012 09:21 AM, Mathieu ONeil wrote: > > Yes, good point. New member of JoPP board: Francesca Musiani
by Mathieu ONeil 01 Nov '12

Hi all I am pleased to sponsor a new member for the JoPP editorial board, Francesca Musiani. I saw Francesca in Paris recently and she told me she would be interested in working on the P2P currency/value issue that Nate has been working on. After some back-and-forth between Nate, Francesca and I it is all OK and going forward. In the course of the conversation Francesca presented some of her research interests and suggested that I forward this to the list, so I'm posting an abridged version below. If after a week no-one opposes then the nomination will be effective. cheers Mathieu -------- Original Message -------- (snip) Something more about me and my interest in JoPP/this issue project more specifically. I am having somewhat of a nomadic academic year between Washington, DC (where I have my "primary affiliation" as this year's Yahoo! Fellow-in-Residence at Georgetown U), Cambridge, MA (where I'm affiliated with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society) and Paris, France (where I defended my PhD a couple of weeks ago and where I have an ongoing research project at Ecole des Mines - and other stuff). The common basis of all this is an interest in alternative, decentralized architectures/infrastructures for Internet services and platforms. My website is painfully in need of an update, but a more recent profile of me is here: http://isd.georgetown.edu/233483.html. This project of a journal issue on distributed currency (or, as both Nate and Mathieu suggest, on P2P and "valuation" of exchange, more generally, of which distributed currency platforms would be an important strand) is very interesting for me as I believe that very recently, it is perhaps the area in which decentralized/P2P systems (where decentralization is also in the technical infrastructure) has shown the most interesting developments. Within the frame of my French research project, ADAM (adam.hypotheses.org) we have done some preliminary "mapping" work on distributed currency platforms and we plan to make Bitcoin one of our three case studies for the work package that is centered on users. A lot of my PhD work has been on the "new intermediations" in alternative P2P services, so this is yet another declination of the "P2P valuation" that we might consider when drafting the call for this issue. A suivre, as we adopted-Parisians would say... :) kind regards Francesca PS: Mathieu - I realize that I basically just wrote what I would have written on the mailing list after your introduction - feel free to forward it right away if you see it fit :)
