Vimpulse features
by Largo 11 Feb '11

11 Feb '11

Hello, I am currently using Emacs with Viper, and I am curious what are the most usefull features of Vimpulse, that Viper does not have? I have already looked on emacswiki and the Vimpulse gitorious page and could not find much there on this topic.

[ANN] vim-mode 0.4 released
by Frank Fischer 08 Feb '11

08 Feb '11

This is an announcement of vim-mode 0.4. vim-mode is another implementation of vi/vim-like key-bindings for Emacs. The mercurial repository is available at http://bitbucket.org/lyro/vim-mode and the documentation at EmacsWiki http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/VimMode This version contains many improvements in existing motions and commands as well as new motions and commands and a new interactive search/substitute. Version 0.4 should contain most features I wanted to see vim-mode so we are heading toward 1.0 release. The main task are therefore code cleanup, bugfixing, implementation of missing commands and motions and minor improvements, but the core code should remain unchanged. Vim-mode is an package independent from viper or vimpulse and rewritten from scratch. Nevertheless vimpulse should be considered to be more feature-rich, more stable and more advanced, so I suggest to test vimpulse first before trying vim-mode. The reason is on the one hand the stable and well-tested viper-core of vimpulse, on the other hand that vim-mode is mainly a one-man-project which means that only those commands and motions that I use in my workflow are well-tested. Best regards Frank Fischer

[PATCH] Tweak "make big" to catch if bigd/ already exists
by Trevor Murphy 08 Feb '11

08 Feb '11

Hi, all. Please bear with me, as I'm still fairly green to vimpulse, git, git send-email, and what have you. I prefer to use the 'make big' option. However, I can't do a 'git pull; make big' to get myself up to date. Make complains that the bigd directory already exists. Attached is a patch to fix that in the obvious way. But I feel like I must be missing something. Surely other people would have encountered this by now if they also used the big file. Am I missing the compelling reason to avoid using it? Anywho, thanks for your great work. I've committed to getting more comfortable with Emacs, and I just couldn't do it without vimpulse.

Why does :q kill my emacs?
by guivho 26 Jan '11

26 Jan '11

I've been using viper up to now and would like to use the visual and inner word extensions provided by vimpulse. So I downloaded http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/vimpulse.el, installed it in my lisp directory, and required it iso viper. However, I am frustrated by the fact that now :q or :wq completely kill emacs rather than the current buffer. This is not the case when I stick to viper. I have no idea how to figure this out, lease advise, Guivho.

ido color problem when vimpulse is loaded
by Thomas Hisch 26 Jan '11

26 Jan '11

Hey, Today I realized that the vimpulse module is the cause of the color-highlighting problem in ido in my emacs setup. The problem is that all matching ido candidates have the same background color and that directories, regular files ,.. have all the same foreground color. I'm using the latest git version and also tried to load vimpulse without customizations. Any hints? Regards Thomas

vimpulse suggestion
by Manfred Lotz 03 Jan '11

03 Jan '11

Hi there, I often work with emacs server and to kill a buffer which was initiated by emacs-client I would have to use C-x # in order to avoid messages I have to answer. Wouldn't it be a good idea? to have: (defun vimpulse-kill-current-buffer () "Kill the current buffer." (interactive) (if server-buffer-clients (server-edit) (kill-buffer nil))) Then :bd works fine in any case. -- Manfred

bind <tab> to vimpulse-abbrev-expand-before in insert mode
by Titus von der Malsburg 19 Dec '10

19 Dec '10

Dear list, I'd like to be able to expand words and symbols by pressing the tab key in insert mode. I tried this method: (vimpulse-imap [(tab)] 'vimpulse-abbrev-expand-before) But when I press tab in insert mode after evaluating this nothing happens. I'm was running emacs -nw. The strange thing is that it does work when I run emacs with the graphical user interface (GNU Emacs 23.1.1 from Ubuntu lucid). Any ideas about what is going on here and how I can fix it? The other problem I'm having is that C-v does not activate block selection but inserts text. I'd be happy about any suggestion! Here's my init.el, not much going on there: (require 'slime) (setq inferior-lisp-program "/usr/bin/sbcl") (slime-setup) (load "~/.emacs.d/vimpulse.el") (setq-default fill-column 80) (mouse-wheel-mode t) (setq auto-fill-mode 1) (add-hook 'text-mode-hook 'turn-on-auto-fill) (xterm-mouse-mode t) ;; tab expands (vimpulse-imap [(tab)] 'vimpulse-abbrev-expand-before) ;; cycle buffer as in chrome (global-set-key (kbd "C-<next>") 'next-buffer) (global-set-key (kbd "C-<prior>") 'previous-buffer) Sorry, for these basic questions. I just switched to emacs after having used vim for 10 years. I'm a bit lost. Titus

Vimpulse bug report: vimpulse-end-of-previous-word fails on punctuation
by egarrulo 18 Dec '10

18 Dec '10

Hello, I've found a bug into `vimpulse-end-of-previous-word', which is bound to "gb". The bug happens when previous word is a symbol, like this into an Emacs Lisp buffer (| is point): (defu|n If I hit "gb", point does not move. I've read implementation of `vimpulse-end-of-previous-word', and my understanding is that here: (unless (vimpulse-beginning-of-Word-p) (viper-backward-Word 1)) ;; Point oves at the beginning of "defun" (viper-backward-Word val) ;; Here point is on the ( (viper-end-of-Word '(1 . ?r)) ;; This makes point move to end of "defun" This bug is still present in Git repository. Tested with "emacs -Q" followed by "(require 'vimpulse)". Software: - GNU Emacs 23.2.1 - Debian GNU/Linux. Thank you for your attention. Elena

Vimpulse bug: can't repeat gq with .
by Christoph LANGE 11 Nov '10

11 Nov '10

Dear vimpulse developers, I found out that "gq" (vimpulse-fill) cannot be repeated with ".". Instead, the action that was performed before vimpulse-fill is repeated. Concretely, I entered "x" (viper-delete-char) somewhere, then "gq}", and then ".". That apparently repeated "x". Cheers, and thanks for fixing, Christoph -- Christoph Lange, http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Langec, Skype duke4701
