TAB goes crazy in C/C++ mode
by Sanel Zukan 05 Jun '13

05 Jun '13

Hi all, I'm not sure is it me (again) but with the recent pulls my TAB in C or C++ mode goes mad sometimes, especially if there are some unusual C or C++ constructs. Here is some example: --- #include <stdio.h> #include <some-lib.h> MAGIC_MACRO(X) class Foo : public Baz { private: int a; int b; <-- sometimes evil gets confused and will not allign this variable, but will put it on the begining public: }; --- When above happens, TAB no loner works (to align the code), unless I change the mode. Even worse, not every mode change will return TAB behavior: e.g. going to fundamental mode will do nothing, but if I go to python-mode, things are restored. Any idea what is going on? This bug is not always reproducible, making it quite hard to explain steps. My emacs is 24.2.1 (x86_64-redhat-linux-gnu) in daemon mode from terminal. PS: I'm seeing TAB is bind to evil-jump-forward so I assume this is more Evil bug than Emacs, as someone on Emacs list would already notice it. Thanks, Sanel

[PATCH] Continue with last-insertion tracker if buffer region is valid
by Trevor Murphy 01 Jun '13

01 Jun '13

Hey, all. Sorry to post this to the mailing list without something on the bug tracker, but bitbucket apparently has stopped taking OpenID and I don't think this report merits creating a whole new account and password. Commit db7e641 resolved Bug #272, "Evil works incorrectly with yasnippet near the end of buffer". The issue was that `evil-stop-track-last-insertion' would get confused if the last insertion appeared to extend past the buffer bounds, and the solution was to put in a guard. However, I think the guard is doing `<' and `>=' comparisons backwards. As in, shouldn't it be like the attached patch? Thanks, Trevor Murphy (1): Continue with last-insertion tracker if buffer region is valid evil-common.el | 4 ++-- 1 file changed, 2 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) -- 1.8.3

Feature feedback: partial search acceptance
by aditya siram 03 May '13

03 May '13

I'm working on a patch to evil where searching for a word with '/' allows me to stop at a partial match. For example, given: "The wor^d I am looking for is abcd". where '^' represents point, if I type '/' 'abce', 'abc' is highlighted. When I hit RETURN or C-g I want point to go to the beginning of that partial match and not jump back to where my search started. Does this seem like a useful idea? Thanks! -deech

Any existing way to customize derived mode according to its base mode?
by Hongxu Chen 25 Apr '13

25 Apr '13

Hi all, Evil mode is really wonderful for most editing issues. But I sometimes prefer the default keymaps(emacs state) for other modes for instance, those modes that are derived from comint-mode. When I set (evil-set-initial-state 'comint-mode 'emacs) But when I use gud-mode, the initial state is still `normal'. So is there any setting that can make the derived mode inherit the base mode? Thanks. Hongxu Chen

is ":norm ..." available?
by Qiming Sun 24 Apr '13

24 Apr '13

Hi all, I'm just starting to use Evil. In Evil, I didn't find the Vim function ":norm" e.g. :%norm 3J to join every 3 lines for the entire file. Is it available in Evil now? Or is it a future plan? Thanks, Qiming

Non editing Evil commands in evil-normal-state-map
by Barry OReilly 08 Apr '13

08 Apr '13

Modes in which direct editing of text isn't sensical generally initialize in motion or emacs state. This means that the evil-normal-state-map is inactive. But there are some useful Evil commands in evil-normal-state-map that don't involve editing text, such as: evil-record-macro what-cursor-position find-file-at-point evil-quit and several others. These are unavailable in for example Buffer Menu, even though they would make sense there. What's the reason behind putting non editing commands in evil-normal-state-map?
