by Jorge Garcia-Arias (Ule) 15 Nov '24

15 Nov '24

Dear colleagues, I am attaching an article, recently released at *Latin American Perspectives*, written with my Ecuadorian *compa* Javier Cuestas-Caza that connects the pluriverse and autonomism with our proposal for an intercultural, decolonial and ecological Buen Vivir. Pluriversal Autonomies Beyond Development: Towards an Intercultural, Decolonial and Ecological Buen Vivir as an Alternative to the 2030 Agenda in Abya Yala/Latin America <https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0094582X241292327> I trust you will find it interesting and, of course, any comments on your part will be most welcome. Please direct your comments to my email address (jrgara(a)unileon.es) and not to the whole list, in order not to generate unmanageable flows of emails. Natural Law and the Jaba Sé: Kogi Cosmovision for an Interconnected World [New Article]
by Pooja Kishinani 14 Nov '24

14 Nov '24

Dear friends, We have a new article on REDWeb written by Aili Pyhälä based on her work with the Kogi Indigenous peoples (Colombia). *Natural Law and the Jaba Sé: Kogi Cosmovision for an Interconnected World* <https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/natural-law-and-the-jaba-se-kogi-cos…> *The Kogi are an Indigenous peoples living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Colombia. Despite centuries of attempted colonization and assimilation, the Kogi have largely maintained their autonomy and biocultural harmony. * *In this article, Aili Pyhälä explores the factors underpinning their exceptionally sustainable and resilient lifeway - their overarching nature-based cosmovision, strong cultural identity, and intricately intertwined spiritual-political governance model over social, economic and natural systems. She reflects on how the Kogi story could help all of us – anywhere in the world – discern what is worth holding on to (or recuperating) as globalization comes knocking at our door (or screens).* Please read and share widely: https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/natural-law-and-the-jaba-se-kogi-cos… *If you feel called to support the Kogi peoples to recuperate and regenerate their ancestral territory and revitalize their traditional knowledge systems, please do contribute via this link*: *https://earthcodes.org/donatekogiproject <https://earthcodes.org/donatekogiproject> * I've also copied Aili on this email should you wish to write to her directly with comments and/or reflections. In solidarity, Pooja [image: 2.png]

Climate finance and food systems
by Michel PIMBERT 11 Nov '24

11 Nov '24

Hello This briefing calls on governments to mobilise finance for the large-scale transitions needed towards climate-friendly food and farming. This will involve switching funding and subsidy support from globalised, fossil-fuel intensive, long-distance linear supply chains to re-localised agri-food systems; funding transitions to low-meat diets and agroecological livestock production; taxing financial speculations and the windfall profits of agri-food corporations; reducing the gross inequalities associated with greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in and between countries; a global wealth tax; and financing democracy for climate repair. See: Financing Agroecological Transformations for Climate Repair <https://www.coventry.ac.uk/globalassets/media/global/08-new-research-sectio…> CAWR Policy Brief, November 2024. Best wishes Michel Michel Pimbert Emeritus Professor of Agroecology and Food Politics Coventry University, UK www.agroecologynow.net <http://www.agroecologynow.net/> www.excludedvoices.org <https://www.excludedvoices.org/>

COP29 - Rethinking Climate Finance Responsibility [New REDWeb Article]
by Pooja Kishinani 09 Nov '24

09 Nov '24

Dear friends, Check out our latest article on REDWeb: *COP29 – Rethinking Climate Finance Responsibility* <https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/cop29-rethinking-climate-finance-res…> *The upcoming COP29, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11-22 November 2024, will be crucial for climate finance. Governments will have to conclude negotiations on the so-called New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on international climate finance, as set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement. What might a fair distribution of the NCQG burden entail? * *In light of this question, Fausto Corvino examines policies that shift the responsibility of international climate finance to the global rich, who have not only emitted disproportionately but also have the greatest financial capacity to contribute to climate action.* Read the full article here: https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/cop29-rethinking-climate-finance-res… Please do read and share this timely piece. I've also copied in the author, Fausto Corvino, if anyone wants to write to him directly with comments and questions. In solidarity, Pooja

COP16 in Cali and the defense of biodiversity - New REDWeb Article
by Pooja Kishinani 22 Oct '24

Dear friends, Check out our new article on REDWeb: *Peace with nature? COP16 in Cali and the defense of biodiversity* <https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/peace-with-nature-cop16-in-cali-and-…> by Miriam Lang With COP16 underway in Cali, Colombia, Miriam Lang highlights the risk of focusing on biodiversity credits as a solution to preserving biodiversity may preclude discussions of a transformative politics outside of a market-based logic. What is needed is a change of the very logic that drives environmental politics at all levels towards one that foregrounds relational worldviews, care and reciprocity with nature instead of the patriarchal, modern impulse to commodify, dominate, and destroy it. Fwd: A whole year of death
by Andrea González Andino 07 Oct '24

07 Oct '24

Hello hello! Dear friends, passing this message from Ahmed, a friend that I met through Ecoversities and is trying to raise some funds to... alleviate? survive? at this point it is literally a matter of life and dead. If you can support them with something it will mean the world to him. Campaign link: https://gofund.me/15d48632 Email with updates below. Thank you for reading! Hugs from Andes Ecuatorianxs. ---------- Forwarded message --------- De: Ahmed saleh <ahmedmsaleh52(a)gmail.com> Date: lun, 7 oct 2024 a las 9:14 Subject: A whole year of death To: <ecoversitiesweavers(a)gmail.com>, <ecoversitiesfriends(a)googlegroups.com>, Ecoversities Global Gathering <ecoversitiesglobalgathering(a)gmail.com> Dear Ecoversities Friends, Today marks a full year since that tragic humanitarian disaster which began on the fateful 7th of October. A year filled with death, destruction, and displacement. A year that has driven us back to living in tents, enduring the worst of conditions. Even now, we continue to call upon the world with our humanity, which has been crushed under the treads of tanks and the brutal machinery of war. I write to you today with a heavy heart, burdened with immense pain and psychological stress, as I live far from my family while we share a common fate of borders and refuge. My family has been forced to live on the streets for many long months, severely impacting their mental and physical health. During this time, we have lost family members and friends, our home, and our education, leaving us surrounded by the walls of displacement, exile, and mass death. I write these words with a heavy heart, making an urgent plea after we have exhausted all our resources due to continuous displacement and escaping stray bullets. My younger sister suffers from hepatitis, and my other sister is experiencing severe psychological issues that have caused her to lose her physical balance due to loss and harsh circumstances. As for my brother, he recently had a newborn who suffers from low birth weight, and they are also dealing with skin diseases caused by the weather, insects, and the inability to access cleaning supplies. Due to the rains that fell in the past two weeks, our tent was flooded, and many of our belongings were damaged. We are in dire need of a cover to protect the tent from water leakage and to secure healthy and sufficient food for their survival. We are in desperate need of your support and kind hearts, and we still need your prayers and blessings. Campaign link: https://gofund.me/15d48632 Any contribution, no matter how small, will help us greatly, and we kindly ask you to share this plea with your friends and community.
