Radical Ecological Democracy website - Two new articles
by Pallav Das 09 Jul '23

09 Jul '23

Dear Friends, Please take a look at two new articles on RED on decentralized governance. Neema Pathak Broome, Srishti Bajpai and Mukesh Shinde analyze the weaknesses of the government introduced decentralized governance initiatives in India, and contrast them with the success of a grass-roots program in the state of Maharashtra - a worthy template for replication elsewhere in the country. https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/on-the-cusp-reframing-democracy-and-… In the second article Neema Pathak Broome joins Akshay Chettri to discuss how enduring traditions and modern socio-political strategies are coming together to help the Van Gujjars, a community of migratory herders, negotiate contemporary challenges of governance. https://radicalecologicaldemocracy.org/traditional-governance-systems-of-th… Hope you find them of interest, and if so then please share them with your networks. It tells the story of Mashudu, from Venda region, South Africa, who is reconnecting knowledgeable elders with young people to animate their ancestral wisdom, culture and confidence. In her words: “If we are strong, we can show everyone that our Indigenous culture is something to be cherished, not ashamed of." And if that pique’s your interest, you might enjoy the interactive version.<https://express.adobe.com/page/U3ZnkMdFQHrt1/>Mashudu is a graduate of Gaia’s training for Earth Jurisprudence practitioners and works with our local partner EarthLore in South Africa. She is accompanying her own VhaVenda community on a path of restoring food sovereignty, regenerating ecosystems, and remembering traditional governance that enables humans to live in respectful relationship with our living world. Her journey demonstrates the immense value of Indigenous cultures in navigating the multiple ecological and social crises of our times. A beautiful conversation between Mashudu and fellow practitioner Gertrude Pswarayi-Jabson from Zimbabwe, on rights and responsibilities – ‘*/It All Starts With Opening Our Hearts <https://terralingua.org/langscape_articles/it-all-starts-with-opening-our-h…>’/* - takes a further look at Earth Jurisprudence, in this online version of Langscape Magazine, by TerraLingua, published today. If you are an influencer, have press and journalist contacts or simply a wide social media outreach, attached is a press pack with the different ways to share this feast of materials. STOP DESIGN THINKING - Save yourselves from design thinkers
by Jinan K B 23 Jun '23

23 Jun '23

STOP DESIGN THINKING I have uploaded a paper at Academia and medium about how to understand the modern mindset by examining the term design thinking. Join me to discuss this https://www.academia.edu/s/b416e3384b or you can read about the same at https://jinankb.medium.com/stop-design-thinking-c6ffc24148d1 One doesn’t require an anthropologist, sociologist, psychologist, and least of all a cognitive scientist to understand the modern mindset. Just a bit of common sense (the most uncommon in modernity which is what schooling takes away) will do. A proper examination of the term ‘design thinking’ will do. How they bring in two totally diverse phenomena together in words and pretend the job is done. This is the same drama with first fragmenting knowledge into various subjects and making the pretense of integrating all by just creating a few terms- multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, etc… It is interesting another nature of the modern mindset which can be called an ‘afterthought’. This means first destroy, make this as default and then pretend for the first time a solution is provided. Take the usage ‘out of the box thinking. A much-celebrated usage…. The stupidity of the modern mindset is that they are not asking why are you in the box in the first place. Who put us in? So, our default setting is in the box, fragmented……. And instead of trying to find the root cause, a temporary solution is offered.
