evil interferes with describe-key in Emacs 24
by Sarah Brofeldt 06 Jan '12

06 Jan '12

When evil is enabled, C-h k M-w gives me "M-w is undefined". If I disable evil with C-z, it works as expected again. This may be Mac-only behavior, I guess. -- Sarah

dw and db not working quite right; search bug; visual selection options
by Leo Alekseyev 26 Dec '11

26 Dec '11

Hi all, I've started playing around with Evil recently, and am quite impressed. Unlike most people here, I come from almost purely Emacs background with very little Vim experience. I've run into a couple of issues: First, dw and db don't seem to work very consistently for me combined with the '.' key. In particular, the following occurs: (1) When doing dw or db and then pressing ... a few times, "After 0 kbd macro iterations: Quit " message will pop up in the minibuffer when pressing '.', and deletion repetitions no longer work. Movement commands don't clear the error; I need to repeat dw or db again, or toggle insert mode. (2) dw ....... doesn't work across lines; when end-of-line is reached, it starts deleting backwards instead of deleting words on a new line. There isn't a particular sequence of actions that I found that triggers those errors, but they appear often enough to render dw and db unusable for me. Is it a known issue and is there a workaround? Second, there appears to be a bug with evil-search-forward and C-g. In the help, it says "C-g when search is successful aborts and moves point to starting point." (This is in fact standard emacs behavior.) This doesn't work for me; point stays at the first match, and to get back to the starting point I need to hit C-o. It's kind of annoying because I often cancel searches. Finally, is there a setting equivalent to Vim's :set selection=exclusive? Coming from Emacs, I find visual mode's current "inclusive" behavior to be deeply strange. I'll ease myself into using Evil more over the next few days. We'll see how it's going to co-exist with my existing emacs usage patterns :) Cheers, --Leo

evil-emacs-state-modes stopped working
by José A. Romero L. 25 Dec '11

25 Dec '11

Hello Evil People, After doing a git pull today I found that for some (actually most) of the major modes declared in evil-emacs-state-modes, new buffers come out in normal state. I've managed to narrow down the cause to commit 3cb71223, file evil-core.el, line 93 -- in all problematic cases, evil-state is set to normal (not sure why, though). Removing the "unless evil-state" condition makes things work normally (or is it emacsically?) again. Cheers, -- José A. a few desired motion commands
by Jim Green 24 Dec '11

24 Dec '11

Hi, Frank and list: would the following movement commands be incorporated to evil someday, they are quite useful in navigating in source codes. pls let me know if it is useful to put in to feature request tracker as well. Thanks and happy holidays! Jim. [( [( go to [count] previous unmatched '('. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} [{ [{ go to [count] previous unmatched '{'. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} ]) ]) go to [count] next unmatched ')'. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} ]} ]} go to [count] next unmatched '}'. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} ]m ]m Go to [count] next start of a method (for Java or similar structured language). When not before the start of a method, jump to the start or end of the class. When no '{' is found after the cursor, this is an error. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} ]M ]M Go to [count] next end of a method (for Java or similar structured language). When not before the end of a method, jump to the start or end of the class. When no '}' is found after the cursor, this is an error. exclusive motion. {not in Vi} [m [m Go to [count] previous start of a method (for Java or similar structured language). evil-next-line doesn't work as expected under visual-line-mode
by Titus von der Malsburg 24 Dec '11

24 Dec '11

I just updated to the latest version of evil. Unfortunately evil-next-line doesn't work as previously under visual-line-mode. It goes to the next buffer line instead of to the next visual line. Is this is a bug or a configuration issue? Titus

Re: is there left, right equivalents in evil or native emacs?

But, of course, if there is some function doing this, it's not a real problem to bind them in ex-mode. Frank

customize ex commands
by Jim Green 18 Dec '11

18 Dec '11

Hi: Frank and List: I have this snipped of code in my .emacs and I want to use :A instead of \c-ct for eassist-switch-h-cpp. (require 'eassist) (defun c-mode-cedet-hook () (local-set-key "." 'semantic-complete-self-insert) (local-set-key ">" 'semantic-complete-self-insert) (local-set-key "\C-ct" 'eassist-switch-h-cpp) ;; switch between corresponding h and cpp files (local-set-key "\C-xt" 'eassist-switch-h-cpp) (local-set-key "\C-ce" 'eassist-list-methods) (local-set-key "\C-c\C-r" 'semantic-symref) ) (add-hook 'c-mode-common-hook 'c-mode-cedet-hook) I added (local-set-key ":A" 'eassist-switch-h-cpp) to the .emacs but it doesn't work.. Thanks! Jim.

xcscope and xgtags with evil
by Jim Green 18 Dec '11

18 Dec '11

Hi Frank and list: when I try to use xgtags/xcscope with evil I have the following question: xgtags/xcscope would open a new window with all search results and this window/buffer is in normal mode, but enter wouldn't work to go in to the source code file in the result list. I need to c-z to get to emacs mode to jump to the source file. Would it be possible to let evil go into emacs mode for result buffers of cscope and gtags? or what is your approach regarding to this issue? Thanks! Jim Ps: this is the mode line of when I am in a xcscope result buffer. -=--:%%--F1 *cscope* 91% (2547,0) (cscope)-- <N>

Howto Configure Evil
by Timothy Washington 17 Dec '11

17 Dec '11

Hey all, I'm trying to figure out how to get these configurations done with evil. I can't see how to do that with the documentation here<http://gitorious.org/evil/pages/Home>. I'm trying to get these basic behaviours: - directional delete: d [up key] - line numbers - setting softtabstop: set sts=2 - remap: : to ; (I want to avoid pressing shift to invoke a vim command) - remap: % to [tab] (I want to avoid pressing shift when jumping between scopes) Thanks Tim
