I ran in so much problems that I preferred to install the system for the third time.. I your first answer Guglielmetti, you asked me whether I installed via install or knxinstaller..The first 2 times I installed with install. And now, I tried knxinstaller.. All seems alright for now..but it is because I've not rebooted a couples of times yet..nor I have installed third-party applications..I just have the system with the apps installed by default.. Do you think the problem could come from the "install"? or because of other installed apps? Thank you. Julien.

Boot problem

I'm trying to boot the Musix 0.49 CD on a ASUS system and after i enter english dma or englishrt dma it stops with the message: Uncompressing Linux invalid compressed format (err=2) -- system halted the CD boots fine on the other PC, and the MD5 test is also fine some other CD's boot fine on that box, but Musix, and ubuntu cd's won't boot I did a search on this and it seems kernel related so i don't think it is a hardware config issue... Any good tutorial for beginner?
by julien bodd 26 Jun '06

Hello, I'm a beginner in pc music. I managed to get my keyboard connected through midi. Play through rosegarden. What I'm looking for is a systematic tutorial that will learn me what the applications are for, how to use them, etc.. Thank you very much.

I thought problems were gone..but in fact they are still there..but I have more info about what happens.. It seems that the system runs into general problems (slow response time) 50% of the times I boot it. I can detect that, because those times KDE does not run at all ! It get stuck into the loading at "initializing system services". So then, I ctrl-alt-backspace and go into IceWm..But the problems are still there..I click on a terminal, or on some apps like rosegarden..and they open 5 minutes later. Other times, when I can get into KDE, then I can work with IceWm without problems too. It is very strange because it happens 50% of the time. Also, 50% of the time (but not especially the same), I cannot reboot the pc..it get stuck on "send kill signal to apps" (in spanish), or in "stopping named" (in spanish too). I'm a little disappointed..I don't know what to do (As I said earlier, md5sum is ok). I ran into a lot of problems trying to configure the keyboard layout too..I discovered that they are tons of files where you can set LANG, KEYBOARD..etc..and lots of conf apps too..In the end, it works, but with lot of effort.. It would be great if someone could help me :-) bye.

Saving Desktop Settings?
by DCZX 26 Jun '06

Please, is there a way to save the desktop settings? Every time I login, I have to reset my resolutions all over again. I'm just about ready to give up on Musix from all the configuration hassles. =( __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Problems with 0.49 (continued..)

It's worst than what I thought :-) rosegarden, the only app I really need, is the one that does not work..(I looked at the tips with rm ~/...). It was working when I initially installed the system..but now, after some reboots..it doesn't want to open anymore.. I cannot manage to circle the errors.. One tip that might help.. when I just click on simple rosegarden, nothing happens.. The partition on wich musix is installed is /dev/hda3, but when I click on rosegarden+timidity for example, I get the error : Using /mnt/hda1 mount: /dev/hda1 already mounted or /mnt/hda1 busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/hda1 is already mounted on /mnt/hda1 Disk /mnt/hda1 has 27348 kb of free space No tiene suficiente espacio en /mnt/hda1 para crear archivo de intercambio de memoria SWAP. Presione [control]+[C] para abortar o presione [enter] para intentarlo en otro disco rígido I tried to run crear-swap-en.sh with param /mnt/hda3, and other partitions too..but it does not want to use them..It only wants to use /mnt/hda1 (on wich I have another debian..) I'm lost...:-)

md5sum was ok. I ran a new installation and all went ok. For the first install I chose ext3 filesystem and for the new one reiserfs. I dont know if this could have been the problem. cheers

We would like that. If you want to do it, please write to johns(a)gnu.org and he can accept the info from you. > Is there any chance we could convince Midiman > to change this policy? Well... we must try: If we are going to do this, the next step is to figure out who to talk to, and that person's addresses or phone numbers, and what language to talk with him in. Then we need someone who speaks that language, to call that person. Want to start? Another idea: If the non-free code is available in source code, someone could study that code, get the ideas out of it, and write a completely different program (not copying any details, of course, since those are copyrighted). This new program could be free.

Problems with 0.49
by julien bodd 23 Jun '06

23 Jun '06

Hello guys, I've just installed Musix for the first time. I ran into a lot of problems. First of all, browsers crash for pop-up windows..they crash too sometimes when I want to download something. They always crash when I perform the download with right-click -->save target as... I initially thought it was a firefox problem, so I installed another browser (epiphany)..and I was surprised to see that the same problems appear. Second problem, the DHCP connexion seems to work 1/3 of the times at boot time. So when I log, sometimes I have to perform a card-configuration (wich performs dhcp request). Third wierd problem, when I go in the Music menu in Icewm, some apps I click don't open the first time I click..but only the second. The wierd thing is that the applications I initially clicked, open something abour 3-4 minutes later !!!! Very strange behaviour. Anyone with the same problems? Thank you very much! ++
