I investigated a little further for the SATA controller.. It says that in general kernel 2.6 does not support it.. I read tips like disabling from BIOS : 1) Apic Mode --> disable 2) SATA --> disable OR tranform SATA/RAID to SATA ONLY.. The first option was available on my BIOS..and so I turn that off.. But for the second..I saw nothing.. I also added to the boot options : noapic, nolapic, acpi-off But, again..Nothing of all that solved the problem... Waouw..imagine the day we'll solve this problem..I'll have learned a lot of things..don't desesperate..it is funny..well..in fact..I want to do music..but ok..I'll be patient..I hope the problem will be solved..:-) >From the boot screen msgs..I have also : "detectecting hardware : open_sock() : No such device" Also, the message "Starting PCMCIA services : no socket found" is still there..although I have the nopcmcia option in grub.. (for the 2 messages above..I see that in common they talk about sockets..) So..where are we? What's next on the check list :-) ?? Bye bye

Still no solution Marco.. :-) Look at my fstab file..I almost commented all entries.. /dev/hda3 / reiserfs defaults 0 1 #/dev/hda1 /agnula ext3 defaults, auto 0 2 #/dev/hdb5 /data vfat auto,rw,users,defaults,umask=000 0 0 proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 #/dev/fd0 /floppy vfat defaults,user,noauto,showexec,umask=022 0 0 #usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs devmode=0666 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 #/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 defaults,ro,users, noexec, noauto 0 0 #/dev/cdrom1 /cdrom1 iso9660 defaults,ro,users, noexec, noauto 0 0 #/dev/dvd /dvd iso9660 defaults,ro,users, noexec, noauto 0 0 # Added by KNOPPIX #/dev/hda5 /mnt/hda5 auto noauto, users, exec 0 0 # Added by KNOPPIX #/dev/hda6 none swap defaults 0 0 I did not commented neither proc nor sysfs because I thought those were important for the pc to boot correctly..Do you think I have to comment them to ? And juste let /dev/hda3 ? And what if I comment /dev/hda3? The pc will not boot? It is on that partition I have agnula.. So..as you see..after all these disabling..(and rebooting)..nothing works better.. For the other things you told me : > 837 ? 00:00:00 ata/0 > 844 ? 00:00:00 scsi_eh_0 > 845 ? 00:00:00 scsi_eh_1 > As instance, this process are not into my system. Maybe the problem is with scsi HDs, or SATA HDs. > Mmm.... what happens if you just kill them :P I even tried as root..I can't manage to kill them..even with kill - 9. A friend of mine told me that probably the ATA CONTROLLER is the one that shows the scsi interfaces..he says ATA interfaces are often shown as scsi interfaces.. > desc: CMD Technology Inc|Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller > It's really a RAID system? No, it is not a RAID system..it is a SATA controller...raid model.. Huh..I'm confused..although I know about softs..etc..in fact I'm a programmer Marco..so I'm generally ok with what you tell me...(hmm...you can speak to me as not a simple user..)..so..although I'm ok with soft..I know NOTHING abour hardware.. So..SATA..etc..I don't know what it is.. My friend told me..that the motherboard has the SATA controller shown above.. but I don't use it.. So..do you still think it could come from this? If we could in some way disable this controller? Or any new idea? It seems that possibilities are decreasing..we have tried a lot of things ! :-) Hope I don't make you crazy..or loose your time.. Julien. When the system will work..I'll make a song for you :-)

Jorge, I have problems with normal user too..they just suggested me to try as root to see if it worked like this. Marcos, I will now try the boot options, and editing the kded configuration file. May be update kde too. But as you notices, the problem is probably coming from the hardware.. Midisport / EZUSB feedback
by MNO 27 Jun '06

27 Jun '06

Here are my findings, and i think i'm missing something in my knowledge here... I installed the ez-usb-firmwares Note: i first needed to apt-get update before i could grab the ez-usb. then i put the MidiSport1x1 and 2x2 .ihx /usr/share/usb/ezusbmidi then i went into Jack, switched ALSA to OSS, restarted Jack and looked for Midi I/O's ...but no luck . I replugged the USB connector. restarted Jack looked around some more, ..nothing i also added the midisport4x4.ihx restarted jack switched back and forwerd between ALSA and OSS. also added midisportloader.ihx (not sure if i needed that) ...nothing also tryed the above with only one .ihx in the /ezusbmidi/ directory (this for the 1x1, 2x2 and 4x4) but i cant find any MIDI in or out in Jack or Rosegarden (i also looked there to be sure) When i look in /dev/usb on the ramdisk then i see ez1 sitting in there. So now i ask myself... am i looking in the right places?

First of all, I always have at bootup screen the following error msg (I don't know if it has anything to do with that) : Starting PCMCIA services : cardmgr[4230] : no sockets found Failed! Here the results from the case analysis. 1) In the case I CAN SUCCESSFULLY log into KDE, then the processes are : PID TTY TIME CMD 1 ? 00:00:00 init 2 ? 00:00:00 ksoftirqd/0 3 ? 00:00:00 watchdog/0 4 ? 00:00:00 events/0 5 ? 00:00:00 khelper 6 ? 00:00:00 kthread 8 ? 00:00:00 kblockd/0 9 ? 00:00:00 kacpid 172 ? 00:00:00 pdflush 173 ? 00:00:00 pdflush 175 ? 00:00:00 kprefetchd 174 ? 00:00:00 kswapd0 176 ? 00:00:00 aio/0 177 ? 00:00:00 jfsIO 178 ? 00:00:00 jfsCommit 179 ? 00:00:00 jfsSync 180 ? 00:00:00 xfslogd/0 181 ? 00:00:00 xfsdatad/0 770 ? 00:00:00 kseriod 837 ? 00:00:00 ata/0 844 ? 00:00:00 scsi_eh_0 845 ? 00:00:00 scsi_eh_1 860 ? 00:00:00 kpsmoused 864 ? 00:00:00 kcryptd/0 865 ? 00:00:00 kmpathd/0 866 ? 00:00:00 kmirrord 907 ? 00:00:00 reiserfs/0 1278 ? 00:00:00 khubd 1435 ? 00:00:00 khpsbpkt 1461 ? 00:00:00 knodemgrd_0 1539 ? 00:00:00 kgameportd 1832 ? 00:00:00 shpchpd_event 1984 ? 00:00:00 kjournald 4265 ? 00:00:00 cupsd 4280 ? 00:00:00 atd 5003 ? 00:00:00 kdm 5117 tty1 00:00:00 getty 5118 tty2 00:00:00 getty 5119 tty3 00:00:00 getty 5120 tty4 00:00:00 getty 5121 tty5 00:00:00 getty 5122 tty6 00:00:00 getty 5472 tty7 00:00:03 Xorg 5473 ? 00:00:00 kdm 5492 ? 00:00:00 icewm 5548 ? 00:00:00 ssh-agent 5559 ? 00:00:00 icewmtray 5575 ? 00:00:00 rox-filer 5582 ? 00:00:00 rxvt 5583 pts/0 00:00:00 bash 5624 ? 00:00:08 firefox-bin 5628 ? 00:00:00 gconfd-2 5647 ? 00:00:00 kdesud 5675 ? 00:00:00 pump 5695 pts/0 00:00:00 ps Then I can launch rosegarden successfully ONE UNIQUE time ! Hello, with the knxinstaller I finally ran into the same problems again.. I performed the steps, you Marco, told me. It indeeds seems to be a KDE/DCOP problem. When I log as root, it is the same, 50% of the times I cannot log into KDE, and those times rosegarden and kile (a kde frontend for latex) don't work at all. I launched rosegarden from a terminal, and it says at the end : kdeinit: Shutting down running client. --------------------------------- It looks like dcopserver is already running. If you are sure that it is not already running, remove /home/julien/.DCOPserver_julien__0 and start dcopserver again. --------------------------------- KDE Daemon (kded) already running. (In that case, the rosegarden logo window appears and get stuck in "initializing") So I rm -rf /home/julien/.DCOP* , rm -rf /root/.DCOP* and the same for .ICE* and launched again rosegarden. In that case it says : /usr/X11R6/bin/iceauth: creating new authority file /home/julien/.ICEauthority and get stuck there. So I ctrl-c and renew the cmd and I get : kdeinit: Shutting down running client. and it gets stuck there. (without any logo window) Attention ! in the last step it does not get always stuck..if once it gets unstuck..then it will never get stuck again it that session. Anyway, "kile" does not work at all. Any idea ?
