Firefox/Thunderbird Startup Issue
by w a y n e 13 Feb '07

13 Feb '07

Hey there.First off - my install (knoppix) went smoothly in spanish though i have some minor locale issues im sorting out. Thanks for your help Marcos.I have installed Firefox and Thunderbird and when I try to open either I recieve a error message stating "Firefox/Thunderbird could not be started as another instance of mozilla-fireforx/thunderbird is running. Close down this applications process and try again." I searched and found that firefox and thunderbird both run as the process 'iceweazel' and 'icedove'. These are infact links to the executables. However in ps list icant see andything but icewm and some similar ice procs. So i cant close them down.Once this is done i can link their profiles to existing profiles on my fat32 drive windows. (This is so i can maintain a dual boot with XP and still check/access email and bookmarks via both). My internet via konquerer works also.I have also tried this in the KDE to no avail.Any help would be much appreciated.

Bit Torrent for Musix GNU+Linux 0.79
by Mexican Strat 10 Feb '07

10 Feb '07

I noticed that ngolf at zonnet.nl was thankful that he was able to "download" instead of "torrent", however I am not. (http://lists.ourproject.org/pipermail/musix-users/2006-December/000432.html ) <musix-users-owner(a)lists.ourproject.org> <musix-users-owner(a)lists.ourproject.org>"Downloading" (http/ftp) relies on the underlying TCP layer for error control, which uses a weak checksum by modern standards. In addition to distributing transmission bandwidth, modern peer-to-peer protocols provide an additional layer of error control. Long story short - I have a corrupt ISO file, which would Not have happened with Bit Torrent, (or Gnutella, or eDonkey) Maybe one of you could send me the output from this command: for a in `seq 0 697`; do (dd if=MusixGNU+Linux- 0.79b19.iso bs=1M count=1 skip=$a 2>/dev/null | md5sum >> MusixGNU+Linux-0.79b19.md5sum.1M); done And I can manually recover the file; maybe downloading only 1 meg to repair the file. Otherwise, I'll have to begin downloading the entire 697 Megs all over again.

kanotix installer fails
by w a y n e 09 Feb '07

09 Feb '07

Hi,My Live CD works perfectly and i am really happy with it.So i tried installing it to HD. The 3rd disk on a winXP system.hda1 - winxphdb1 - fat32 data drivehdc1 - 200GB blank (where is wish to install musix0.79b19)I have used the kanotix installer and it just goes around in loops and never installs anything. When i use the 'IGNORE_CHECK=1 knoppix-installer' comand line as sudo then it will install but startup is extremely slow. After using synaptic the system was unstable and crashed and was no longer usable(i just did recommended updates) and installed fuse..I tried with the reiserFS (default). This is meant to be faster but appears slow. Is ext3 better? What is the process for installation as i really want it on my system. Thanks,Wayne

For new users to this list I would recommend that all issues in the digest are detailed that way ;-)I have installed 9 ditros this last week alone (both ubunto and kbunto 6.06 and 6.10, JACKLAB OpenSuse 10.2, m-dist, gentoo(alpha 2006), AGNULA and DEMUDI) and by far the most suitable for my purposes and excellent initial setup is Musix. (im trying 'Studio to Go! 2.0' this weekend hopefully also).I have had worlds of trouble trying to get my drives mapped(auto in Musix) and getting my 8 channel soundcard to even simply play audio let alone record it. Also the default Musix has preset desktops that cover all the groups you can imagine. I am completely blown away by this and wish to thank and congratualate you all on a superb distro. My next step is to do some serious multi-tracking with it after installing Musix to disk (on top of my already dual boot system (I wish to make it tri-boot with WINXP and JACKLAB).Thank-you very much.Cheers,Wayne Re: My video display not working and being a blank screen >No, you must try with >"englishrt", not "musixrt english" Ok - musix is easier to read ;-) >So, you never see the desktop, never? I just want to give some good news: Kanotix Installer (and other apps) now works into Musix 0.99, because the locales problem was solved. Also, we have a better support for any language.
