I supposed that the ISO file on gnu.org was damaged, but now you say that it works, and other people say it too, so, I am glad now. Hola Hiran Watson: > What's the difference between the two install kernels > (2.6.15.3-rt-musix & 2.6.13-1-multimedia)? Hi, one was compiled here, the other was taken from DeMuDi... newer kernels must have better hardware support, but we are just learning how to do the things right. > That is, do the name > endings mean anything different, or is the only difference the > version number of the kernel? Both things. "multimedia" is from Debian Multimedia Distribution > Thanks. Musix 0.39 released !!!

ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu+linux-distros/ututo-e/musix-0.39.iso http://www.musix.org.ar/en/download.html http://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php?title=Musix039-release#English New in Musix 0.39 * Rosegarden4 1.2.3 (Musix is the first distro with this version, thanks to Silvan and the Rosegarden TEAM!) * Xorg 6.9 (thanks Adrian P. for the adaptation) * 4 Kernels: 2.6.15.2 (boot from live-cd) 2.6.15.4 (boot from live-cd, with realtime patch) 2.6.15.3-rt-musix (only works installed in HD, with realtime patch) 2.6.13-1-multimedia (only works installed in HD, with realtime patch) * Some general graphics design changes * KDE 3.5.1 * All source code available from www.gnu.org * eq-xmms-musix modified by Pardo (recommendable) * hundred of software packages updated * Lots of fixed bugs, and more. Known problems * After installation you can only boot from 2.6.15.3 y 2.6.13 kernels at first instance. Then the system should created the necessary to boot from the other kernels. If this doesn't happened, please inform. * KDM (desktop manager) takes too long to launch. * Possible incompatibility with SATA disks. * The 2.6.15.4 kernel (with realtime features) makes reading in live-cd mode too slow in machines with little RAM (128 MB). This is because it wasn't possible to compile it with UNIONFS support, like the 2.6.15.2 kernel. Thanks to * To the usual people and to the ones who have recently joined. But in this case we thank especially Tapani Raikkonen, who compiled the 2 booting kernels from live-cd, and taught us many things about that. -- Marcos Guglielmetti Director del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) (ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/) __________________________________________________ Correo Yahoo! http://www.musix.org.ar Musix GNU+Linux 0.39 has been released! This is a highly experimental version. We've developed it with the intention of testing the latest versions of many applications. 0.39 will probably run better in some systems than previous versions of Musix. We really apreciatte bug and test reports! =What's new in Musix 0.39= * Rosegarden4 1.2.3 (Musix is the first distro to provide this version. Thanks to Silvan and Rosegarden's Great Team!) * Xorg 6.9 (Thank you Adrian P. for the adaption of it) * 4 Kernels: 2.6.15.2 (live-cd boot kernel) 2.6.15.4 (live-cd boot kernel with realtime patch) 2.6.15.3-rt-musix (not live-cd bootable. must be installed to hdd. realtime-patched) 2.6.13-1-multimedia (not live-cd bootable. must be installed to hdd. realtime-patched) * Some changes in the visual aspect: * KDE 3.5.1 * All sources available at www.gnu.org * eq-xmms-musix modified by Pardo (recommended) * hundreds of updates software packages * lots of bug fixes, and more. = Known issues = * Installation: After installation only kernels 2.6.15.3 and 2.6.13 are bootable. Once there the system should create the necesary stuff so it is able to boot other kernels. If this does not happen, PLEASE report it. * KDM (desktop manager) takes a lot to start. * Possible SATA hdd incompatibility * Kernel 2.6.15.4 (with realtime) makes reading in low-memory (128mb ram) systems to be really slow, becase it was not possible to compile it with unionfs support, contrary to 2.6.15.2 which has no issues with this. = Thanks and acknowledgements = * To those who have been there always, and those who recently joined, but I want to give a special one to Tapani Raikkonen who compiled the live-cd kernels and taught me lots of things about it. -- Marcos Guglielmetti Director del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) (ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/) __________________________________________________ Correo Yahoo! problems booting and installing
by Peter Corbett 27 Mar '06

27 Mar '06

Hi I am having problems both booting and installing Musix GNU + Linux. I have tried pressing enter when the initial prompt appears and it takes me to a screen asking if I want to install. At the boot screen I have also tried typing "musix tohd=/dev/hda1" and it says "could not find the kernel image "musix". I tried the automatic installation in the screen that comes up when I just hit enter at the boot and it gets to a screen that says that the installation will finish and shutdown after I hit enter. After hitting enter, I have left it for 8 or so hours and it still hasn't progressed. So then I rebooted and tried typing "musix fromhd=/dev/hda1" into the prompt. Again, it responds with "could not find the kernel image: musix". Can anybody help me? Sincerely, Peter

De: Marcus Planet <marcusplanet(a)adelphia.net> Para: marcospcmusica(a)yahoo.com.ar Fecha:17/02/06 23:52 Hola Marcos, I am an amateur rock musician exploring Llinux music creation tools and planning multimedia projects with other local musicians. I am also employed as a computer instructor for individuals with mental illness. Several of my students have an interest in music and Linux. Some of my rock music is posted at marcusplanet.com Musix is a great help to me because I have struggled with the technical issues a good deal. I've tried CCRMA, Agnula, and other distros trying to get JACK to behave and only achieving partial success. Musix solves a great deal of my problems. I have yet to explore all Musix has to offer, but my hard drive install was easy and I'm excited by all of the wonderful programs. I feel that my students and fellow collaborators and I will be enjoying Musix for a long, long time. Thank you again! FW: Musix 0.31 & Qsampler
by Marcos Guglielmetti 23 Jan '06

> Hello Marcos, > > I downloaded this new version and the Qsampler works like a charm. Oh, great! i didn't had time to test it... i will try it in a few days > However it still boots by default the 2.6.11 kernel. Yes, from live-cd, it will boot 2.6.11 for now > Is there a simple way to boot the 2.6.13-multimedia kernel, for > example with a cheatcode or something? No: there is not _for now_: you need to install Musix. By the way: the kernel 2.6.13-multimedia-386 it's the same from DeMuDi, but then you can install another new kernels from DeMuDI if you want, as instance 2.6.14 or the next series... > So far I haven't been able to boot this kernel and I'm quite curious > about its capabilities. I dont think it could be better than Planet CCRMA, you will have to install it to know about it: you can make a 2gb partition to test it, it's not so hard > Kind regards, The same for you pd: the Musix servers that hosted the 0.31 ISO are all down for now, there are people wanting to make a torrent with Musix 0.31 and share it, could yo do something with it? If you can't, forget it, i am just thinking in a loud way -- Marcos Guglielmetti (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) (www.k-maleon.com/musix) Coordinador del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) (www.musix.distrux.net) ___________________________________________________________ 1GB gratis, Antivirus y Antispam Correo Yahoo!, el mejor correo web del mundo http://correo.yahoo.com.ar
