Prob with multimedia kernel and echo gina24
by vcvz vcxzv 11 Jan '06

I see the 0.30 livecd has the echo drivers in the /lib/modules/2.6.13-1-multimedia/alsa folder but i think the problem is to use the multimedia kernel you have to install it to the harddrive and do the grub or lilo thiing to choose the multimedia off the harddrive install I posted a howto replace the knoppix livecd boot kernel and it would be cool to replace the 2.6.11 knoppix default kernel with the multimedia kernel so that we can use it by default but that will take some doing. I have an echo mia card and i guess only way to get it to work is to do a harddrive install of the livecd: it would also be really cool when the freebob drivers become more usable to include those as well. Marcos any chance of replacing the knoppix 2.6.11 with the multimedia kernel and modules? :))

a nice song recorded with ardour, rosegarden, etc., etc., etc., etc., etc...

Hi, Today we finished a job with a man called Juan M. Bogado: a nice song! He did the MIDI job with his PC and then I imported the .mid file into Rosegarden. We used Specimen for the piano, Zynaddsubfx for Bass and synths, Qsynth for GM percusion, Hydrogen for the main drums (kit: yamaha vintage), and his acustic guitar. We recorded all the audio files into Ardour, and then mastered with Jamin, you can listen to it by clicking here: www.musix.org.ar/ogg/Juan-Martin-Bogado__Yira_Mundo__Musix_GNU-Linux.ogg Hope you like it! -- Marcos Guglielmetti(www.pc-musica.com.ar) Coordinador del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) ___________________________________________________________ 1GB gratis, Antivirus y Antispam Correo Yahoo!, el mejor correo web del mundo http://correo.yahoo.com.ar

(I haven't been able to install it to disk so > far) If you use it as a live cd: yes But you can copy qsampler_0.1.2-1_i386.deb to some place in your hard disk, as instance: /mnt/hda1/qsampler/qsampler_0.1.2-1_i386.deb and then dpkg -i /mnt/hda1/qsampler/qsampler_0.1.2-1_i386.deb It could work fine (i dont have time to test it here) So, you will only have to type dpkg -i /mnt/hda1/qsampler/qsampler_0.1.2-1_i386.deb into a root console (xterm, konsole, etc) By the way: linuxsampler and qsampler are too experimental for now good luck -- Marcos Guglielmetti(www.pc-musica.com.ar) Coordinador del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) ___________________________________________________________ 1GB gratis, Antivirus y Antispam Correo Yahoo!, el mejor correo web del mundo http://correo.yahoo.com.ar

Prob with multimedia kernel and echo gina24
by fritz＠fritzmetal.de 11 Nov '05

Hi folks, I would like to check out Linux audio tools which look very interesting. I've got Musix 0.30 installed on hd but I've got no sound. I've got a echo gina24 card. I can't boot to the multimedia kernel which Marcos told me (thanx a lot!) has support for the gina24. Linux shows me these last lines when I try to boot to the multimedia kernel: Uncompressing Linux ... OK, booting kernel. initrd-tools: 0.1.81.1 mount: fs type devfs not supported by kernel umount: devfs: not mounted mount: fs type devfs not supported by kernel umount: devfs: not mounted pivot_root: No such file or directory /sbin/init: 432: cannot open dev/console: No such file. Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! When I had Musix 0.26 installed, I wasn't able to start the multimedia kernel, too. I've got a P4(a)3.5GHz Asus P4C800E deluxe 1GB RAM 2 SATA hds echo gina24 audio card radeon 9600 pro video card I tried to do what was described earlier on this list for the mia audio card but I didn't get it to work with the default kernel. I wasn't able to build the driver, it failed. BTW, I've got Musix in the Knoppix mode installed. Please help me! Thanx a lot in advance. Best wishes, FRitz

by Marcos Guglielmetti 28 Oct '05

28 Oct '05

http://www.pc-musica.com.ar/ogg/Ansiedad-master3--q1--Marcos-Guglielmetti-M… ¡Hola!

deb repository, ghostess
by Marcos Guglielmetti 22 Oct '05

Hi, I included ghostess into musix's trivial repository: It works fine here, I like its capability to edit whysynth's patches (of course, it can edit another DSSI instruments too). # /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://www.musix.distrux.net/deb/ ./ apt-get install ghostess-20050916 Hey, it's an experimental repository, so, dont expect too much about it ;) Screenshot: http://www.musix.org.ar/img/tn-ghostess-dssi-musix030.png A few related links: http://home.jps.net/%7Emusound/index.html https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php/Ghostest#Compilando_ghostess https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php/Musix030-test-anuncio1 pd: also Chris Cannam tell us how does DSSI GUIs works: > Another reason this sometimes happens is that the local host name or > localhost is not in /etc/hosts (or resolvable via DNS in the case of > the host name).
