DSSI editor GUI bug, solved

Just include you host's name into /etc/hosts (to know it, you can type "hostname" into a terminal) As instance: 127.0.0.1 Musix_GNU+Linux localhost > Another reason this sometimes happens is that the local host name or > localhost is not in /etc/hosts (or resolvable via DNS in the case of > the host name). The OSC communications library we use (liblo) seems to > depend on this. > > > Chris > ------------------------------------------- -- Marcos Guglielmetti Coordinador del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux (www.musix.org.ar) http://www.pc-musica.com.ar/Curriculum-Marcos-Guglielmetti.html fecha: sáb oct 22 18:40:03 CEST 2005 ___________________________________________________________ 1GB gratis, Antivirus y Antispam Correo Yahoo!, el mejor correo web del mundo http://correo.yahoo.com.ar

Musix 0.30-test will be ready for download in a few days
by Marcos Guglielmetti 22 Oct '05

22 Oct '05

kernel, desktops, and boot
by Rob 20 Oct '05

20 Oct '05

Hi, Some questions, if someone knows the answer : 1- I use GAG as MBR which is very comfortable ofr multiboot. It works perfectly with any linux distro, except for musix. I record the boot in the root, but GAG can't find it and I need to boot with a floppy. Any idea ? 2- What are this different kernels and desktop environments exactly ? I use the multimédia kernel and kde (sorry, too much Windows, I feel more comfortable with this). Now I got some playback out of sync and I just wonder if the kernel and desktop can be the cause. 3- Big thank to Marcos for the french keyboard layout : this is less attention on typing and less mistakes done !!! Friendly, Rob. http://zicrob.free.fr

Rosegarden+Audio / pdf / openoffice

> There is this list > of "presets" when I click on the rosegarden icon on the desktop and I > concluded that it was "ready to use" preset and that I had nothing to do to > make it work !... Maybe we must add an Rosegarden + audio preset, sorry, i will do it now. > Apparently, it's now working (I get a record of my > guitar) however there is only the left channel of the stereo (but that > could be a cable problem). Mmmm.... see JACK Control: if you are recording from line, try to connect both left and right alsa_pcm capture ports to some rosegarden input. But I know that Rosegarden must do this job for himself. You will have to start JACK in duplex mode. (I guess you know it), and then start Rosegarden. > I'm still a bit amazed that there is no more the > cracks and pops, and the time troubles I had with Windows (no way to > record, the time was elastic !). That's weird > > One question if you please : It seems that I can't install openoffice 2 and > acrobat reader for Linux (I need them). Did I miss some point ? > Have a great day. You too. > Rob. You can install anything. Acrobat it's not free software, so I can not support it, you can use kpdf, kghostview, xpdf, and there are some comandline apps to work with pdfs: pdf2dsc pdfimages pdfprinterconfig pdftotext pdf2ps pdfinfo pdftoppm pdffonts pdfopt pdftops Openoffice.org it's free software (and it can export to pdf too), as root, use apt-get apt-get update apt-get install openoffice.org Se necesita descargar 54,3MB/54,6MB de archivos. ¿Desea continuar? [S/n] n For now, there is no openoffice 2.0 into Debian, you can install 1.1.4 ___________________________________________________________ 1GB gratis, Antivirus y Antispam Correo Yahoo!, el mejor correo web del mundo http://correo.yahoo.com.ar

no audio in rosegarden
by Rob 15 Oct '05

15 Oct '05

All seems to work good now, midi ok, audio ok, etc. But when I try to record some audio (guitar say), the track remains empty. I searched all sorts of combinations in the mixer, but nothing work for this. I record easely in Ardour and Audacity, but not in Rosegarden. This is very annoying because I work with midi and audio together. I can't find what's wrong. I tried different "presets" found in the Rosegarden folder. When I boot, there is different error messages (oops, didn't note them precisely) like "bad sectors" (on CDs), "...failed as there no such -file or folder-" etc... Is my CD image damaged or is this bugs ? Rob

Ok... > My problem is that when I install it to the HD, it > will not install in the English language. Mmm. Very strange... Did you installed Musix before booting with the "english dma" option? I had installed it here in english (begginer style), and it works fine. > Can anyone help me? Sure. > Also, with my limited Spanish, I was able to make most things work. If you installed Musix in Begginer or Debian style, KDM should be your Desktop manager, so, you can copy the attached files to /bin and /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/ Then KDM should show you English Desktop options If nothing works right, re-install Musix by typing first "english dma" at the boot: prompt, nad try to select Begginer style. > A > glaring exception was my wireless card, which the system found, but > wouldn't connect to anything. I dont know anything abouy wireless cards, all I know is that kwifimanager is an app to manage those things :( > I'm fairly new to Linux, and I realize this > is a common problem with a million different fixes, but I was wondering if > you folks knew of anything specific to MUSIX. Thanks! Search in google: your card knoppix Because Musix was made from a Knoppix 3.8.2 system. You were right > And this is whaét I tried to mail to you : Ouch: this "é" seems to be from a french keyboard: I'm tying to fix some problems related to french users: after HD install, you will have to copy some files to your Musix OS in order to enjoy a french keyboard. I had attached those files. From: https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php/Patch ==French users== ===Keyboard=== > - I localized KDE in french, but as for the keyboard layout, if I > restart, it's still in english... Hi, I was working on that, and now it works fine Uncompress bin.tar.gz to /bin/ and the other files to /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/ Download them from: www.musix.distrux.net/parches/bin.tar.gz www.musix.distrux.net/parches/usr-share-apps-kdm-sessions.tar.gz You can uncompress them with konqueror, or ark Make shure that all the /bin files are executables ones chmod +x /bin/* It should work very well for you from K Desktop Manager (KDM) now. Tell me how does it goes. ===French KDE apps and manpages=== *You must have Internet access Type '''tasksel''' into a console or terminal window (konsole, etc.) Or: you can type apt-get install kde-i18n-fr manpages-fr Follow the install process, it should be easy. Also, you can install synaptic (apt-get install synaptic), that is an easy way to install software packages. These kind of things will be solved into Musix 0.30 --------------------------------------------------------------- > All seems to work good now, midi ok, audio ok, etc. But when I try to > record some audio (guitar say), the track remains empty. I think that you are using Rosegarden without selecting Audio into the track you are trying to record to. > I searched all > sorts of combinations in the mixer, but nothing work for this. I record > easely in Ardour and Audacity, but not in Rosegarden. Thats what i mean: try to find out how does Rosegarden use to assign Audio or MIDI tracks (also, synth plugins, etc). You can always read the manual ;) > This is very annoying > because I work with midi and audio together. I can't find what's wrong. I > tried different "presets" found in the Rosegarden folder. > When I boot, > there is different error messages (oops, didn't note them precisely) like > "bad sectors" (on CDs), "...failed as there no such -file or folder-" Did you installed Musix? Mmm.... maybe > etc... Is my CD image damaged or is this bugs ? > Best regards, Rob. Maybe it's damaged. Try with this doc: https://www.ututo.org/xp/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?cat_id=1#q52 Also, you can type testcd when you boot musix... but I think that it always says that the CD es bad ;) so, I dont know.
