Gina20 firmware missing
by Johannes M. Stolba 21 Jun '06

Dear Marcos, Thanks for releasing 0.49! I gave it a second try with this version to get my Gina20 card running. It looks as if I would get a little closer, but not close enough :-( snd-gina20 is being loaded but during startup an error message occurs, saying that the firmware can not be found. These are the messages printed in /var/log/dmesg: pci_hotplug: PCI Hot Plug PCI Core version: 0.5 shpchp: Standard Hot Plug PCI Controller Driver version: 0.4 PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 0000:00:0e.0 ALSA /usr/src/modules/alsa-driver/pci/echoaudio/echoaudio.c:45: get_firmware(): Firmware not available (-2) Echoaudio Gina20: probe of 0000:00:0e.0 failed with error -2 8139cp: 10/100 PCI Ethernet driver v1.2 (Mar 22, 2004) The directories /lib/firmware and /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware are both empty, should they be? What can I do? Do I have to download ALSA sources and compile by myself? Thanks for your help! -- Johannes M. Still can't connect to internet
by John Wimbere 21 Jun '06

Marcos, Thanks for your previous reply. I tried "dhclient eth0" as you suggested but that did not work. The output did not seem to generate any errors, but unfortunately I could not save the output because Musix did not recognize my Lexar USB JumpDrive. I must be missing some detail with pppoeconfig. If you have any other ideas I'm willing to try them. Thanks, John Wimbere __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Midisport?
by MNO 19 Jun '06

Hello, Where can i find a tutorial to configuring the midisport interface under Musix? I noticed that the interface is not detected on boot, i need to unplug and reconnect the USB cable, then USB detects it. But as a 'unknown device'. So now i need to learn how to get it working in Musix/Rosegarden. I'm still working from the Live CD. Any hints are welcome! Internet connection problem
by John Wimbere 19 Jun '06

19 Jun '06

Hello, I'm a usual user of Fedora and SuSE and after discovering your distro I wanted to give it a try. Overall, I like the selection of apps and the options you've built into it, but I'm facing an obstacle: I cannot establish an internet connection with Musix. I've tried just running it as a live CD and installing it on an older Thinkpad. Both machines have integrated ethernet. pppoeconfig appears proceed normally and trigger my DSL connection, but then Firefox cannot bring up a website and apt-get cannot update. I have Knoppix 4.0 LiveDVD and to test, I had the same problem there. Had the same problem when I installed Agnula/Demudi. I've never had a problem configuring my DSL connection with Fedora or SuSE. Do you have any insight as to why I can't with Debian distros? And this is odd, because with older Knoppix releases like 3.7 or 3.9 I had no problems whatsoever. Thanks, John Wimbere __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

"This is (IMHO) the best 'out of the box' system for musicians yet"
by Marcos Guglielmetti 18 Jun '06

From: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138416 "Musix GNU+Linux:(this one was mentioned quite a while ago by someone here; Thank you for the great tip, whoever that was! This is (IMHO) the best 'out of the box' system for musicians yet; Based on knoppix, you can test the live CD version to see how you like it. It has everything you will need to make music in a variety of ways, and everythign works straight away!!! for those who have fumbled their way through a couple of Linux installations, you will know what i added three exclamation points to that Very Happy Musix is what i have installed now; I would have liked to keep SuSe, but Musix was just a bit more up my alley, because of all the perfectly installed and configured music stuff. Even has three different trackers! Oh, and Ardour too. And Rosegarden. And.... just more stuff than you can imagine. And it uses APT, so getting new apps should be a breeze. I haven't needed to yet Very Happy Anyway, I really hope this helps. I have had a LOT of trial and error stuff with Linux - i have never been particularly technically adept when it comes to Linux; more of a fumbling dim-wit, really Laughing So, when i found these three worked easily, with no mess, easy as Windows... well, i had to share, for the good of other hopelessly right-brained people like myself. Very Happy cheers all. Here's to eXT on GNU/Linux!!! -gabriel" -- Marcos Guglielmetti * Director del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux, 100% Software Libre * Descarga el CD de Musix: (www.musix.org.ar) (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) * Videos, programas y otras cosas en: ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/ * Reporte de errores a: https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php?title=Problemas-Bugs *IRC: #musix channel on freenode

More problems with screen
by DCZX 17 Jun '06

17 Jun '06

Well, I thought all was well with the installation of the ati drivers, however, this is not so. * Kcontrol will NOT save the settings I choose. As soon as I log out and back in, they are back to default settings. I even clicked on the "use when starting KDE" option. No luck. * Once I change resolutions, the fonts stay extremely small for some reason I don't understand. I would really like to see Musix succeed, but if users, especially non-hacker musician types can never get past these technical issues, I'm not sure how it can. More that 50% of the market is ATI, so you're looking at a wide userbase. Thanks for your help and I hope we can figure out some solutions that maybe could go in the documentation. P.S. sorry I'm not submitting through the wiki... I think it's in Spanish and I don't know how. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
