Last week I gave up on trying to get my Creative Labs PC MIDI USB Keyboard to work with Linux/Alsa.  Today, I purchased a Korg microKONTROL.  When I connected it to a USB port, it immediately appeared as a MIDI device in Jack Control!

I should have done this much sooner!
