Re: X not working well - Crash and Flick - Still Problem

Hello, first of all, thanks for the help. Secondly, my version of xserver-xorg is : Installed: 1:7.1.0-5 Candidate: 1:7.1.0-5 Version Table: *** 1:7.1.0-5 0 990 ftp://ftp.fr.debian.org testing/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status I couldn't execute xorgmusix.sh. I don't know where it is located. I don't know where is the Admin Workspace neither. I think I have deleted it from workspaces [:-) ] What are the xorgmusix and videoconfig scripts paths? I have another information to communicate. When X crashes, the msg is : Modprobe : Fatal : Error inserting APM (/lib/modules/2.6.16-beyond4.1/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/apm/ko) : NO SUCH DEVICE Thank you again.

---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: J. M. <quip.mail(a)gmail.com> Date: Nov 4, 2006 4:15 PM Subject: HD OK now, but GRUB troubles render PC nearly un-bootable To: Musix GNU+Linux users list <musix-users(a)lists.ourproject.org> Hey all: Thanks for the help in unwinding the trouble with the HD size. I put a 2.5GB HD in there and presto - no prob. (BTW, I went back and checked again just to make double-sure that error says 1GB/128MB for the minimum size of the partitions for Musix - it does. To see what I mean, just put the CD in a computer with less than the required free space and try to start the old-style Knoppix install.) OK, now for the GRUB problem. Trying to boot from HD, GRUB tries to start and fails with Error 21, whatever that is. The rescue floppy created when I installed Musix has only a slightly different version of this problem, complaining "disk does not exist" when I try to boot Linux. (Ironically, it boots Windows just fine!) The setup is as follows: I have Windows 2000 on the primary master HD, the primary slave is configured as a FAT32 storage unit, the secondary master is my DVD drive and the secondary slave contains Musix. GRUB is loaded on the MBR of the primary master. I'm attaching the menu.lst file from my installation and can show you any other relevant config files on request. If someone could look this over and let me know if anything looks suspicious, I would greatly appreciate it. I really don't understand why it isn't working. Thanks!!!!

X not working well - Crash and Flick
by julien bodd 04 Nov '06

Hello everybody, I've performed an apt-get upgrade. I don't know if it was a good idea. My X crashed. So I installed again the xorg-server package as said in this mailing list. Now it works but not well..sometimes it crashes and turns in shell mode. But the main problem is that it is always flicking..for example, when I am on firefox, and I go down a page, it trembles.. Any idea? Should I run the videoconfig.sh script? Where is it located? Thank you. Julien.

Catch-22 on Musix installation to third HD
by J.M. 04 Nov '06

Hey all: Thanks for the FTP link the other day, Marcos. I finally got Musix downloaded and burned. Running from live CD it looks promising, so I'd like to get it installed on my 866 MHz 256MB machine. The computer already has 2 hard drives, so I pulled an old 1.18GB from storage; should have just barely enough space, right? (I can get another one if necessary). OK, now when I try to install Musix using the old-style Knoppix installer (little nervous about Kanotix; it crashed on me once already) I get the system requirements error, basically telling me that there's insufficient disk space and would I like to repartition. OK, no problem, I start GParted and created on /dev/hdd a swap partition of 150MB (over the required 128MB) and a primary EXT2 partition of the remaining space (just over the necessary 1GB). After the machine huffs and puffs through the changes, I return to installation... only to receive the same system requirements error. I suspect that this has to do with the swap partition being locked by Musix itself (the copy running from CD) as in the background terminal it says something like "resource error: /dev/hdd2 swapon" just before generating that system requirements error. Also, if I go back into GParted, I find the swap partition locked. I unlock it... and Musix locks it again, apparently. Thus the Catch-22. Musix insists on locking the swap partition while it's running, but you can't install Musix without locking it. I don't know if I need to manually run swapoff (what's the syntax for that, anyway) before hitting install or use the error override setting or what. Any help would be appreciated. I can't wait to try out Musix. Thanks!!!
