I had installed it here in english (begginer style), and it works fine. > Can anyone help me? Sure. > Also, with my limited Spanish, I was able to make most things work. If you installed Musix in Begginer or Debian style, KDM should be your Desktop manager, so, you can copy the attached files to /bin and /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/ Then KDM should show you English Desktop options If nothing works right, re-install Musix by typing first "english dma" at the boot: prompt, nad try to select Begginer style. > A > glaring exception was my wireless card, which the system found, but > wouldn't connect to anything. I dont know anything abouy wireless cards, all I know is that kwifimanager is an app to manage those things :( > I'm fairly new to Linux, and I realize this > is a common problem with a million different fixes, but I was wondering if > you folks knew of anything specific to MUSIX. Thanks! Search in google: your card knoppix Because Musix was made from a Knoppix 3.8.2 system. You were right > And this is whaét I tried to mail to you : Ouch: this "é" seems to be from a french keyboard: I'm tying to fix some problems related to french users: after HD install, you will have to copy some files to your Musix OS in order to enjoy a french keyboard. I had attached those files. From: https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php/Patch ==French users== ===Keyboard=== > - I localized KDE in french, but as for the keyboard layout, if I > restart, it's still in english... Hi, I was working on that, and now it works fine Uncompress bin.tar.gz to /bin/ and the other files to /usr/share/apps/kdm/sessions/ Download them from: www.musix.distrux.net/parches/bin.tar.gz www.musix.distrux.net/parches/usr-share-apps-kdm-sessions.tar.gz You can uncompress them with konqueror, or ark Make shure that all the /bin files are executables ones chmod +x /bin/* It should work very well for you from K Desktop Manager (KDM) now. Tell me how does it goes. ===French KDE apps and manpages=== *You must have Internet access Type '''tasksel''' into a console or terminal window (konsole, etc.) Or: you can type apt-get install kde-i18n-fr manpages-fr Follow the install process, it should be easy. Also, you can install synaptic (apt-get install synaptic), that is an easy way to install software packages. These kind of things will be solved into Musix 0.30 --------------------------------------------------------------- > All seems to work good now, midi ok, audio ok, etc. But when I try to > record some audio (guitar say), the track remains empty. I think that you are using Rosegarden without selecting Audio into the track you are trying to record to. > I searched all > sorts of combinations in the mixer, but nothing work for this. I record > easely in Ardour and Audacity, but not in Rosegarden. Thats what i mean: try to find out how does Rosegarden use to assign Audio or MIDI tracks (also, synth plugins, etc). You can always read the manual ;) > This is very annoying > because I work with midi and audio together. I can't find what's wrong. I > tried different "presets" found in the Rosegarden folder. > When I boot, > there is different error messages (oops, didn't note them precisely) like > "bad sectors" (on CDs), "...failed as there no such -file or folder-" Did you installed Musix? Mmm.... maybe > etc... Is my CD image damaged or is this bugs ? > Best regards, Rob. Maybe it's damaged. Try with this doc: https://www.ututo.org/xp/modules/xoopsfaq/index.php?cat_id=1#q52 Also, you can type testcd when you boot musix... but I think that it always says that the CD es bad ;) so, I dont know. Try to tell us what messages are you reading there.

General Settings

hi I was wondering how to keep my settings when I leave Musix. Several points are concerned: - Keyboard: I switch it on french layout, but when I start over a new session, it's still in QWERTY mode. - I localized KDE in french, but as for the keyboard layout, if I restart, it's still in english... - I followed a friend on generating the french file for ardour, but how do I telle Ardour to get it? I would really like to know how to fix these little desagrements. So if one knows, thanks for your help! este solo es creible? / Gverb en hydrogen?
by Marcos Guglielmetti 10 Oct '05

hello i remaster the musix 0.26 to include the new ardour build and dssi-vst :P

in regards to the non opensource software, i understand. Just being able to allow vst is cool. if the header files for the steinberg vst interferes with your opensource software then maybe including the dssi-vst is not possible. if it is possible then alllowing the user to simply copy the vst they want to a VST_PATH folder from say a usb drive and not having the vst on the actual musix cd could work around that opensource. The custom kernel tutorial was on the same forum http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21145 is the link. btw somehow i messed on the remaster as i can only use kde by using "startx" instead of "starten" which would have gotten me into icewm.

hello i followed a tutorial on remastering the knoppix cd from http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13867 It was not too bad almost like updating a linux install except for these steps. I installed a new ardour build .deb package and dssi-vst and wine i can trigger and hear crystal.dll and the new ardour starts up. only problem is that on my ccrma the rosegarden could use the dssi-vst but on the musix i can't get rosegarden to see the dssi-vst. I guess i have to investigate more. but i had to use the same steps i used to get vst working on ccrma. i used this package for ardour http://gorfou.fr/site/CVS-Build-for-Ardour-debian.html then i apt-get install wine to install wine then i used this package for dssi-vst http://willem.engen.nl/debian/dists/sarge/dssi/binary-i386/dssi0.9-plugin-v… wget http://willem.engen.nl/debian/dists/sarge/dssi/binary-i386/dssi0.9-plugin-v… change to the folder it downloaded to and dpkg -i dssi0.9-plugin-vst_0.3.1-2_i386.deb or i used kpackage to find the download and installed it thru kpackage. after you install wine and dssi-vst it needs looks for vst dll in certain folders one of which is a folder called vst in the root home directory. like /home/root/vst if your dlls are in another folder you have to set a VST_PATH for it export VST_PATH=/path/to/folder/of/vsti/dlls then you have to run updatedb then run locate dssi-vst-scanner you will have to run this scanner with full path from the command prompt /full/path/to/dssi-vst-scanner what happens next is it uses wine to initialize the vst dll in the VST_PATH that it finds. you might get a wine popup about it being experimental or something. after it finishes scanning you start qjackctrl then at the prompt run vsthost "Crystal.dll" (p.s. crystall.dll is a free synth vsti that seems to be the one to test vst capability with on other linux vst pages) you will see maybe a wine window popup then if all goes well the gui of crystall pops up now you will see the audio and midi connection in qjackctrl for crystal i start the virtual midi keyboard and connect it to crystal in qjackctrl, make sure my volumes in alsamixer is unmuted and turned up and trigger crystall via the virtual midi keyboard. if all goes well you will hear sound and vst is working. to run other vst do vsthost "vstname.dll" and this makes it run as a jack client i have tried alot of free ones with success like voxengo, kjerhaus, blockfish plugs check www.kvr-vst.com for all things vst now rosegarden is a dssi reader so it can read dss-vst but on this remaster i did it didn't show up in rosegarden like it did on my ccrma install. like vst will show up alongside all the ladspa plugins too. anyway i guess i have to tweak some things. also the whole thing with the demudi not having echo alsa drivers is a pain and i have to figure that out. i found a tut on the knoppix forum about custom kernels so that might could be how to have the cd boot to the multimedia kernels with soundcard support and the patches in the kernel for audio work. and to tell you how good dssi-vst works, on my ccrma install i got guitar rig working and played it with very low buffers almost realtime and sounded awesome. i think lots of native instruments vst work. main thing is the wine version i think. well i'm off. anyquestions just post here. by the way you should be able to do the above upgrades while booted off livecd or definitely on a harddrive install.

Unfortunately, I chose the torrent which is much slower than the ftp site. Would anyone care to seed the MusixGNU_Linux026.iso.torrent?
