Invitation to the Social Swarm
by Daniel Reusche 14 Nov '11

14 Nov '11

Dear fellow people from the Internet. We know that social network services changed the way we handle information and relationships. But we also know that social network services create certain problems that come with storing large amounts of personal information. We are concerned about our privacy on those services. The centralized nature of current social networks forces users to trust third parties that are not trustworthy. We do not have to surrender to technology as it is. We have to shape technology in a way that is suited to human nature. This is why the goal should be to create a network that enables all of its users to communicate freely. They must be able to use it in the way they want to, without being hindered by restrictions like censorship or the risk of losing control of their own content. It is not about creating an alternative to existing social network services – it is about creating something even better. There are different approaches to bringing this about, and they all have different up- and downsides. You are working on them. We are working on them. So we ask you to join forces, with us and with each other, to create what we all are hoping for, what is driving us and what we need: A free and secure means of communication for everybody and everything. To achieve this, we think the social network must satisfy these requirements: 1. Free software. 2. Good usability. 3. Decentralization. 4. End-to-end encryption. 5. Mandatory privacy: no plaintext data stored on servers. 6. Scalability. 7. Innovation over standards. 8. Better than what we currently have. We would love to see you on our mailinglist: https://mail.foebud.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/socialswarm-dev To have a closer look at the project, go to our wiki: http://socialswarm.net Best wishes, the folks of Social Swarm

#96: Gadgets problem in Firefox and outdated extensions ---------------------+------------------ Reporter: vjrj | Owner: vjrj Type: defect | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: Common | Version: Resolution: | Keywords: Blocked By: | Blocking: ---------------------+------------------ Comment (by vjrj): As gadgets seems that are not very stable (for me with new firefox & chromium works better now), what about to show a message everytime you add some widget? Something like: "Gadgets are for now experimental. Maybe you can experience problems with some gadgets in some browsers" (please make another proposal of text if you don't like it) Also we can be more accurate in the future (with more time) adding some mark like <experimental/> in the XML to mark which gadgets are giving problems. -- Ticket URL: <http://kune.ourproject.org/issues/ticket/96#comment:1> kune issues <http://kune.ourproject.org/issues/>

[kune issues] #152: Proposal: remove top-left "public space" icon
by kune issues 10 Nov '11

10 Nov '11

#152: Proposal: remove top-left "public space" icon -------------------------+------------------- Reporter: anonymous | Owner: vjrj Type: enhancement | Status: new Priority: major | Milestone: Component: Usability | Version: Keywords: | Blocked By: Blocking: | -------------------------+------------------- This is a controversial proposal. Explanation: * The home, user-space & group-space icons have a common behaviour: wherever you are, you can go there to change "view" and do actions. In Home you can view last updates & stats, in user-space your edited docs, in group-space your group view. * The "public" icon does not behave the same way. 1) you cannot do actions there, it's just to see "how will the page look like". 2) It DOES matter where you are in the group-space, as the "public" icon will show the public version of whatever you were seeing there. However, I may be working in my user-space and if I jump from there to the public, it'd show the last page I saw in the group-space... That's confusing. * I propose that this functionality, the "how will the page look like", is a preview button from the group-space. A preview button, and nothing else. Thus, you must be in the group-space to click on it. It is a preview, which people understand what is it. And it keeps the same functionality. This suggestion comes from explaining it to different people and most finding it pretty confusing. This is especially complicated right now, when the public part is not yet implemented. I would do this change asap to minimize confusion and increase usability (instead of four top-left icons to understand, only three). Maybe there are other alternatives to this change, but it'd be good to discuss this issue. -- Ticket URL: <http://kune.ourproject.org/issues/ticket/152> kune issues <http://kune.ourproject.org/issues/>
