Soil Hack 2018- Invitation
by Frank White 25 Apr '18

25 Apr '18

_Dear Soil health enthusiast_ The second national Soil Hack gathering is taking place over the weekend of 26th-27th May. We invite you to come and contribute your experiences, share ideas and learn about soil regeneration: As part of a DIY movement, we'll collectively discuss, study, explore and celebrate the living soil upon which we all depend. This is an opportunity to work together as part of a knowledge-sharing network, to empower one another to understand more about soils and take actions to improve their health. We'd love for you to join us and get involved - it's going to be ground-making! Do you have a burning question to ask? Experience to share? A new innovation to tell the world about? Well we want to know all about it! Please let us know in advance if you have ideas for workshops / sessions you would like to be involved in organising. To find out more and to book your place go to - https://pretix.eu/soilhack/2018 For more info; to ask us a question or offer a skill share email us at - soilhack(a)mailo.co Look forward to see you there, Soil Hack Organising Crew

Here here! I will tweet this via @TheBeelievers twitter and facebook. I'm SORRY to hijack this thread but if there is anyone you know who has done video for music (or might like to try) who's heart is in it enough to do it for a lesser price (or at least in installments!), this pauper / ESA-recipient music producer would be eager to hear! Our debut track (& very basic website) was uploaded a couple of weeks ago. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Khed6Ea8QTA www.thebeelievers.org IF you like it & agree with the sentiment* please kindly share: preferably sending link to people via email as I have already noticed VERY odd things happening to my social media accounts! 😢 I would also like to know the name & contact details of the workshop leader in the video & the name of the biochar man please? Thanks in anticipation Phaedra (aka Gloree Bee of The Beelievers!) *I am dim at the best of times but not so stupid as to think this message will affect decisions on the cards to be made: it is more of an awareness-raising exercise... for what it may (or may not!) be worth! -------------------------------------------- On Thu, 29/3/18, Scarlett Penn <scarlettpenn1(a)gmail.com> wrote: Subject: Re: [soilhack-announce] Short video from last year's gathering To: soilhack-announce(a)lists.ourproject.org Date: Thursday, 29 March, 2018, 10:53 Wow John that's amazing, great work! Chromatography

Found a good resource explaining how to do soil/compost chromatography testing - a very interesting and accessible way of doing qualitative analysis without having to consult a lab. https://docs.google.com/document/d/16o3MZ1gSZrKonGIeAGA3LIpZR9menu3ii2xjuzf… Hoping to be able to get someone to present about this at the gathering. -- *In order to change an existing paradigm you do not struggle to try and change the problematic model /* *You create a new model and make the old one obsolete /* *That, in essence, is the higher service to which we are all being called. //* Buckminster Fuller

Publicity tools- Can You Help spread the word?
by Frank White 26 Mar '18

26 Mar '18

Hi So here we are, the crew has collectively crafted the tools we need to spread the word to the world about the awesome soil hack. (scroll down for all links) In the true spirit of our collective ethos it would be great if we can all help out a little bit and share the event with our friends or anyone we think would be interested. If you have any questions feel free to ask this list or get back to me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How can I help?- there are a few ways: Facebook- We have an event link and a group page to share and invite folks to. Twitter- We have an active twitter account for us to re-tweet from Flier- A lovely flier that can be cut into your email or FB or if you want printed out and given away old school style. (we have other versions for print ready and b+w) Emails- We have crafted a lovely email that you can take and use as a base for your own mailings. (one to forward will follow) Web page and ticket site- We have a nice ticket page to book your place! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Links for our collective publicizing: Face book: https://www.facebook.com/events/1257987104333492/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/111459542863008/?ref=group_browse_new Twitter: https://twitter.com/SoilHack Flier: request them from us at the email below Email:[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> Web site and ticket page: https://pretix.eu/soilhack/2018/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ If you have any queries please feel free to ask us at the soilhack(a)mailo.com address, the list or to me frank(a)agroecology-education.org We have a small crew of six trying to share out the work, we are keeping track of who we send emails to so we don't double post. But if its just to your mates and so on there is little chance of overdoing it. If you have ambitions to really push it out there then we can share the list of places we already sent it to (not that long as of today). If you want to ask other friends to spread the word to that would help greatly, if everyone does a little bit we can get the word spread far and wide Hope to see you at the gathering, Frank and the Soil Hack Crew 2018

The Zapatistas and the Struggle to Decolonize Science
by Adam Ormes Court 06 Mar '18

06 Mar '18

I've an immense amount of respect for the Zapatista movement of Mexico. Unlike most 'revolutionary' groups, their outlook underlines a concern for both the personal and local, and is free from the usual fanaticism; indeed their words are often beautifully poetic. Initially inspired by Marxist national-liberation philosophies, it would appear that by putting the theory into practice, they have found their own path, which is far more rooted and practical than anything the minds of alienated western intellectuals can produce. Here is an article examining a recent conference held at the CIDECI (*Centro Indigena de Capacitacion Integral *– roughly translated as ‘An Indigenous Centre for Integral Learning’) / Universidad de la Tierra (University of the Earth) on their territory to address the role of science in the struggle for a sane existence. https://towardfreedom.com/archives/americas/cracks-in- the-wall-of-capitalism-the-zapatistas-and-the-struggle- to-decolonize-science/ There's a good deal of information about the movement both online and published in book form, here's a recent Guardian article that gives some background into their history. https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/feb/ 17/mexico-zapatistas-rebels-24-years-mountain-strongholds This page gives a brief overview of their work with agroecology. http://www.schoolsforchiapas.org/advances/sustainable-agriculture/ And here's a report of a visit to their university. http://enlivenedlearning.com/2013/01/16/visiting-another- unitierra-in-san-cristobal-chiapas/ This site also has a documentary on the Uniterra (earth university) movement: http://enlivenedlearning.com/2016/07/01/releasing-our-new-film-re-learning-… Best, Adam -- *In order to change an existing paradigm you do not struggle to try and change the problematic model /* *You create a new model and make the old one obsolete /* *That, in essence, is the higher service to which we are all being called. //* Buckminster Fuller
