Soil Hack 2018- Invitation
_Dear Soil health enthusiast_ The second national Soil Hack gathering is taking place over the weekend of 26th-27th May. We invite you to come and contribute your experiences, share ideas and learn about soil regeneration: As part of a DIY movement, we'll collectively discuss, study, explore and celebrate the living soil upon which we all depend. This is an opportunity to work together as part of a knowledge-sharing network, to empower one another to understand more about soils and take actions to improve their health. We'd love for you to join us and get involved - it's going to be ground-making! Do you have a burning question to ask? Experience to share? A new innovation to tell the world about? Well we want to know all about it! Please let us know in advance if you have ideas for workshops / sessions you would like to be involved in organising. To find out more and to book your place go to - https://pretix.eu/soilhack/2018 For more info; to ask us a question or offer a skill share email us at - [email protected] Look forward to see you there, Soil Hack Organising Crew
8 weeks to go- time to start putting a biochar show together. The first question I need to ask is: can scrap pallets be sourced locally? The more firewood I have to haul from Slough, the less equipment I can bring. Stands to reason. What format of demonstration/ workshop would excite people? Remember, it's not about "making charcoal", it's about integrating your cooking/water heating/space heating needs with charcoal production to deploy as biochar- otherwise two thirds of the energy in the wood goes to waste. I can bring: 2 proven RWAP burners 1 mini RWAP A 2m by 1m grid and supports to make a basic field kitchen. Basic ingredients and utensils to make chapattis and soda bread, but I'm obviously reluctant to handle food with the same hands as I handle the charcoal with- could I hook up with someone with a bit of food hygiene savvy? Various stack burners, but I'm leaning towards the idea of bringing the components of an entry level stack burner, demonstrating how to build it in the evening, and lighting it after dark. Discuss. ________________________________ From: soilhack-announce <[email protected]> on behalf of Frank White <[email protected]> Sent: 28 March 2018 11:18:55 To: SoilHack; [email protected] Subject: [soilhack-announce] Soil Hack 2018- Invitation Dear Soil health enthusiast The second national Soil Hack gathering is taking place over the weekend of 26th-27th May. Through trial & error I can now make compost ready to use within 3 to 4 weeks im also using it has a growing medium 100 % , It works . Laverstoke laboratories in Hampshire tested my compost & it came back . Bacterial activity ; excellent . Fungal activity ; excellent . Fungal Biomass is exceptional . my proof in writing ! I also make good compost tea . that was tested & found to include rotifers which you should know are good . When started about 5 years ago by the soil association i went to the first compost tea seminar this was to get our farmers using compost teas as in the states ! I use mycorrizal fungi & bio char . I talk all over the country passing on my knowledge . Saw this advertised last year & thought superb i can pass on my methods . Was then told as i have been told again that you turn your nose up at meat eaters ! Discrimination i think its called , anyway your loss ... Really? The soil hack group don't allow in meat-eaters? Surely thus can't be true. On 2018-04-01 10:27, Mick Poultney wrote:

Hi My name is frank, I've been working with the group to organise the gathering. For clarity.... We welcome everyone! nobody is excluded for any reason, we welcome all nations, religions, cultures and diet choices. We offer a catering that doesn't include animal products for the weekend, its part of the foundations of the venue we were offered. It means people who usually eat meat (myself being one) may have to go without for a day or two. If that upsetting or anyone feels discriminated against in some way its not meant to be, its meant to be as inclusive as possible. I'm happy to have more discussions about this with anyone. My name is frank, I've been working with the group to organise the gathering.
Yours Frank

Really? The soil hack group don't allow in meat-eaters? Surely thus can't be true.

I can bring:
2 proven RWAP burners
1 mini RWAP
A 2m by 1m grid and supports to make a basic field kitchen.

The second national Soil Hack gathering is taking place over the weekend of 26th-27th May.

I’d really like to know if Mick will be holding a workshop at the event. Can anyone shed any light in this? As a hobby grower, what he’s said about making compost has really peaked my interest in attending this year. Michelle Sent from my iPhone

Hi
My name is frank, I've been working with the group to organise the gathering.
Yours Frank

Response to Mr Poultney's post. Compost in 3 to 4 weeks? Whats your soil food web like? What succession systems is your Compost good for? Rotifers in Compost or Compost tea are not a good sign, Rotifers are indicators of anaerobic systems, where pathogens breed. I hope this helps. Good luck On 02/04/2018 09:07, [email protected] wrote:

Good morning , Being a soil health enthusiast , Meaning , I dont dig , worms do my digging thats why they were invented . I work with nature !
I can bring:
2 proven RWAP burners
1 mini RWAP
A 2m by 1m grid and supports to make a basic field kitchen.

Dear Soil health enthusiast
The second national Soil Hack gathering is taking place over the weekend of 26th-27th May.

Hi Mary+Mick Just to clear it up, we welcome everyone or all cultures, religions and diet choices. Its part of the venue we have been offered that we want to make our event friendly for everyone so we have catering that wont include meat or animal products. It's not a decision to exclude anyone, mainly to include everyone. The food is always delicious and filling, I never have any complaints as I'm a meat eater too. The aim is not to be antagonistic about peoples choices but to be accepting and inclusive. I'm happy to chat more if you like Yours Frank On 04/02/2018 09:07 AM, [email protected] wrote:
