Dan Kittredge workshop
by Christine Page 21 May '18

21 May '18

Some of you may be interested in a workshop I am hosting here at Smiling Tree Farm, south Shropshire on Monday 25 June with Dan Kittredge. Dan Kittredge is a life long organic farmer from Massachusetts, the New England region of the US. His experience covers a broad range of homesteading and market farming, from mixed vegetables and orchard crops to poultry, dairy and beef production. Marketing from farmers markets and CSA's to restaurant and health food store sales. He has been intimately involved in the organic movement in the United States since the 1980's. Along with farming Dan has served as the Executive Director of Remineralize the Earth, remineralize.org <http://remineralize.org/>, founded the Real Food Campaign, and is the founder and Executive Director of the Bionutrient Food Association (BFA). bionutrient.org <http://bionutrient.org/>. Through his work with the BFA, whose mission is "increasing quality in the food supply", Dan has taken a leadership role in the conversation about nutrient density, or relative nutritional value in crops. Through his highly acclaimed two day intensive seminars on Principles of Biological Systems Dan has worked with growers across North America to better understand how to work synergistically with nature in the agricultural context. Dan's work with farmers focuses on understanding principles so as to be able to make efficient and economic decisions in practical situations. Grassroots response from growers has shown results of increased soil health, plant health, yield, shelf life, flavor and aroma in crops, and decreased cost of production, need for inputs and pest and disease pressure. This workshop will run from 9:00-5:00 and cover general principles of biological systems along with key management strategies including soil testing and mineral balancing, cover cropping and mulch, inoculation, seed quality, pest and disease management, plant early childhood development, and in season monitoring and management. Bring your questions, and a pot luck lunch. To book please complete the booking form on my website here <https://smilingtreefarm.com/event/courses-consultancy-educational-visits>. Growers workshop at soil hack...
by Nicky Gibbins 15 May '18

15 May '18

Hi everyone, I'm going to be running a peer to peer growers/farmers workshop at soil hack with Nicky Scott. We want to focus on getting to grips with soil science and talk about how to apply this wisdom on our farms and projects. In the second half of the session we are hoping to use some real farming examples of approaches people have tried and how they have got on with them. We are hoping that this will give people the space to discuss and share their experiences. We would like to organise in advance a few farms/projects to have for discussion so we are looking for volunteers to be involved. We will be breaking into small groups to do this so you don't have to talk in front of lots of people. It would require a short overview of your approaches to soil health on your farm. What has/hasn't worked. Pro's/con's of different techniques. Future ideas. The discussion will be with a small group and a facilitator will feed back to the main group. Is anyone interested in being involved? If so please get in touch with me by email. Thanks Nicky G

Less than two weeks until the event and only a week to go until ticket sales close, places are limited and tickets are selling quickly. If you wish to come, to avoid disappointment, please book you ticket soon. Pleased to say that we have now got all the proposed sessions finalized and listed on the website. https://pretix.eu/soilhack/2018/page/soilhack-gathering-2018-content/ If you want to come and talk about something not yet covered you can still contact us and we can organise adding it to the timetable, or there will be some open spaces in the timetable for anything people at the gathering find they really want to talk about. If you tried & failed to book over the weekend, please try again. There was an issue with the payment processing for the event, but I'm happy to say it's now fixed. Looking forward to it Darren organising team SoilHack 2018 Gathering
