Software status questions
by Wolfgang Köbler 03 Aug '07

03 Aug '07

Hi, 1. What software updates do you plan ? bdi4emc currently has EMC2 V2.0.4, whereas current version is V2.1.7. Are you planing to create and update and if so, when ? Current Debian is Etch, bdi4emc is still Sarge. Are you planing to create and update and if so, when ? 2. What is the current (and/or planned) support for MOTENC-Lite ? How hard is it to get a MOTENC-Lite up and running with bdi4emc ? Can I just copy the the config files from the sample-configs directory to the right places, do minor adjustments and it works ? Are these configs tested or just lying around for a while and noone knows if they still work ? Or do I need to recompile driver stuff, etc. ? 3. Has the Issue from the Mail > Subject: [Bdi4emc-help] BDI - Motenc-Lite Issue? > Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2006 14:10:41 -0800 been fixed in bdi4emc by now ? Thanks for your help and thanks for your work, Wolfgang

Hello all, One of the download index pages has four different links available. I got the source 1 and source 2 ISO's is that going to be sufficient? If so, any tips on what's different between the one CD install, and in what I can expect? Thanx Thread. ____________________________________________________________ GET FREE 5GB EMAIL - Check out spam free email with many cool features! Visit http://www.inbox.com/email to find out more!

bdi 4.01 crash
by Andreas Zippel 16 Apr '07

16 Apr '07

Hello, i tried to install from BDI-CD downloaded from BDIEMC. The CD boots correctly and the installation (using only the defaults) runs till the post installation. Then the X window crashes due to an anaconda problem/bug. Since my window is only a small one, i am not able to see the reason on the resulting text window. Booting afterwards show only GRUB and then nothing. Investigations with SUSE 8.2 rescue system shows that the menu.lst for grub is missing, hence grub is not installed properly. I do not know what i should do to repair this, since i am not familiar with the sequence of installation. Does anybody on this list can help me ?? Thanks in advance. Andreas

SATA drives
by Matt Timmermans 03 Apr '07

03 Apr '07

Hi Paul, I recently installed some shiny new SATA drives, and haven't been able to boot into BDI since -- the 2.6.16.20-rtai kernel seems not to recognize them. Any idea how I could fix that? I can boot slax with a 2.6.16 kernel, or bdi 4.51 anaconda, and those both give me access to the BDI partition on the new drive. Thanks, Matt

tuning velocity and acceleration
by David Szakovits 22 Mar '07

22 Mar '07

i was slightly confused when i initially chose the max velocity and acceleration values in my .ini file. now, i have the following two questions: 1) when testing for the fastest moves, should i use the MANUAL MODE interface with the slider set to max speed or should i use g00 command or g01 with F command and what value for F? 2) once i have set max velocity and acceleration values for X,Y and Z, how do i determine max velocity and acceleration for the [TRAJ] section? djs

stepper motor limitations
by David Szakovits 18 Mar '07

18 Mar '07

i have a small mill with stepper motors, gecko drives running EMC1 (with quickstep). yesterday, i decided to try gcode for the FIRST time and try machining some wood. i used the rectpocket program from http://jelinux.pico-systems.com/gcode.html to generate gcode. when i first ran the generated code, i received a "following error" message. the first move in the gcode was F40 and i changed that to F20. after that, i did not see any additional error messages. the first pocket had a couple defects. when i looked through the gcode, i noticed moves as fast as F48 and i changed all of these to F12 and with the F12 as the max speed. after making the edits, the pockets came out perfectly. maybe i have some tuning problems or perhaps this is normal behavior for a modest machine. i don't know. here are some dumb questions: should a small system be able to reliably execute moves like f40 or so? what is a "following error" and is it fundamentally different than a missed step? djs
