Dear Soil Hackers, I'm writing again to see if anyone would have time to fill out a short survey about your experience at soil hack - we haven't had many responses from soil hackers so it would be good to get a few more. As a reminder, for each completed survey *£3 will be donated* to Farm Hack UK to help fund future events, plus you can enter our *prize draw* to win LWA merchandise. *Click here to participate*: https://coventry.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/farm-hack-survey-2020-2 The results of the survey will be used to improve future Hacks and help us get the word out about the impacts the network has had so far. This research is a collaboration between Farm Hack, Landworkers’ Alliance, the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience, and the Sustainable Places Research Institute. All responses will be strictly confidential and anonymous. For more information, please contact chris.maughan(a)coventry.ac.uk . In solidarity, Chris

by Darren 04 Feb '19

04 Feb '19

2018 rushed by and I've recently been nudged by a friend to update the SoilHack wiki so that it talks about the gathering in the past rather than the future- https://farmhack.org/wiki/soilhack-wiki Also uploaded a document, about Shumei Natural Agriculture, which hadnt yet made it onto archive.org, where I was happy to find a load of recordings and photo sets of the gathering that I hadn't seen before- https://archive.org/search.php?query=soilhack2018 I'd like to encourage anyone that may still have any other photos, recordings or documents (best as a pdf) from either of the gatherings to upload them too (tag them with soilhack2018 and/or soilhack when you upload). If you cant work out how to create an account and upload on archive.org you can easily send them to me using this link and I'll upload them for you- https://datengarten.allmende.io/s/zBEpMGnQe9Mmcie SoilHack got a mention in a presentation about using a network approach for farmer made tools at the international community supported agriculture gathering in Greece in November (many of the pictures can be clicked to get to more information)- https://farmhacks.allmende.io/ I've also just picked up the task to create email lists for the four areas people people were interested in taking forward from the gathering. These lists are open and if you were not at the gathering, or have changed your mind, you are welcome to join them. You join by sending a blank email to the email address or subscribing by the link and then responding to the confirmation email you are sent- SoilHack Gatherings soilhack-gathering-join(a)lists.ourproject.org http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/soilhack-gathering SoilHack Research soilhack-research-join(a)lists.ourproject.org http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/soilhack-research Funding for SoilHack soilhack-funding-join(a)lists.ourproject.org http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/soilhack-funding SoilHack Outreach soilhack-outreach-join(a)lists.ourproject.org http://lists.ourproject.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/soilhack-outreach

View this email in your browser <https://mailchi.mp/52ab1cdcea8f/good-food-march-2018?e=ace4eefefc> *Dear all Landworkers' Alliance members, supporters and allies. On Sunday October 14th we will be organising a Good Food March in London. Join us!* *GOOD FOOD MARCH 2018 London, Sunday 14th October, 2018 11.30am* *✊WHY WE ARE MARCHING ✊ * We all have a right to good food – it’s a basic human right! As the UK prepares to leave the European Union and the Agriculture Bill is being finalised we need to ensure farmers are able to produce nutritious ecological, healthy food and everybody has guaranteed access to it. On Sunday 14th October 2018 there will be a march in London calling for a post-Brexit agriculture policy that guarantees good food and good farming in the UK! Anyone who grows, distributes, prepares or eats food – together all of us have a stake in the food system. Whether you are worker in the food system, parents wanting affordable, nutritious food for your children, or you want to support farming that produces good food and works in harmony with the earth, this is a critical time for us all to come together. It’s our biggest opportunity to make our voices hear as the future of our food system in the UK is decided. *✊THE GOOD FOOD MARCH ✊ * Is being organised at this critical time in response to the first draft of the Agriculture Bill. Throughout October the Agriculture Bill will be debated in Westminster and will be finalised at the end of 2018. The final Agriculture Bill will impact what happens to our food and farming system in the UK for the next 50 years. It is crucial that our calls for a better food system are heard by to those negotiating our future. *“As we leave the European Common Agricultural Policy, the UK agriculture bill will determine the future of our food system for the next 50 years or more. If you want that food system to support farmers to produce healthy, affordable food for everyone, please join us.”* Jyoti Fernandes, The Landworkers Alliance Join us to demand a better, healthier food system and support for ecological farming, ahead of World Food Day on the 16th October and negotiation of the UK’s Agriculture Bill. *✊WE ARE CALLING FOR ✊* - Communities to have access to local, affordable, healthy food - - Support for ecological farming - - High animal welfare standards - - Protection of the biodiversity of our countryside - - Ending the use of agro-toxins - *✊MARCH ROUTE ✊* Meet at 11.30 am Parliament Square Westminster, London SW1P 3JX. The march will proceed along a direct route to the Bargehouse Gallery in South Bank (Oxo Tower Wharf, Barge House St, London SE1 9PH). *✊EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE DAY ✊* The march will end at the Bargehouse where the international ‘We Feed the World’ exhibition is running. The exhibition is a global photography initiative capturing the triumphs and tribulations of 50 farming communities across six continents, including the stories of UK based farmers. At the venue there will be an afternoon of workshops and talks about how we can all organize for a better food system. There will also be a ‘disco soup’ lunch so bring ingredients to contribute to the pot! *✊WHAT TO BRING ✊* Bring pots and wooden spoons to make some noise on the march! *✊ GET INVOLVED ✊* We need to bring people from all walks of life to demonstrate support for good food and good farming. This march is designed for everyone communities and farmers. *We need volunteers to help with the following tasks*: - organise coaches of people to come to the march from each region - call other organisations to get support for the march and our list of demands - collect photos and small video clips of people saying what they want from a better food system - design banners and art work for the march - bring a mobile sound system - create costumes of healthy food - drive tractors into London - help with cooking a huge “disco” soup on the day of the march - talk to any local groups interested in food to learn about the agriculture bill, sign onto our demands for a policies that support a better food system to be written into the UK's new Agriculture Bill. *✊CONTACT US ✊* If you have any questions or would like to help us organise get in touch with Jyoti at *jyoti(a)landworkersalliance.org.uk <jyoti(a)landworkersalliance.org.uk>* There’s lots to do and many ways you can contribute!
