I'm pretty sure that that 52, I would make very little chance of finding a
job in the traditional job market,
this is why so many people over 40 are actually consultants, because in
management, what we really have now is a 'up or out' system, which gradually
pushes out people and as the pyramids thins, less and less opportunites
avail. I think there are several important aspects to corporate reluctance,
one is the level of energy which diminishes, which in the current
'histerical' work-culture (one of my pet theories is that the anal-retentive
ruling class of the fifties has been replaced by a histerical ruling class
of the specualitive casino finance world) is a real aspect of work; the
other is I think declining willingness as we grow older and more
'self-realized' to accept hierarchical diktats .. Not that we like if when
we are young, but often we lack the self-confidence and believe it's the
price to pay to 'make' it and be accepted in the world as is ... As we grow
older, that willingness disappears ... around mid-live crisis, a lot of us
have a crisis of 'centroversion', in which, rather than adapt the world to
us, we want to adapt the world to us, and have the increased confidence to
embark on this effort, but this type of effort is almost incompatible with
corporate feudal structures, which assume only the top can mold the world ..
just my five cents, it's late an night, hence the ramble ..<g>
