Dear PeDAGoG colleagues, pl. see below, for possible collaboration on alternative learning/teaching at 'higher' education (assuming most PeDAGoG people are working at that level).

Elizabeth, Laura, Luci, we also have a PeDAGoG meeting coming up on 15th Feb (3 pm GMT), so if you could join, the discussion could also be held there.

We'll send you the link to join it.

Meanwhile, though, PeDAGoG members and you may initiate some discussion on areas of mutual interest, and those of us already active in its subgroups could set up a call with Educere even before the meeting on 15th?

thanks

ashish

(PS: Elizabeth, Luci, Laura, note that you won't be able to post back on the PeDAGoG list unless/until you've been added to the list ... as suggested separately, Upamanyu can add you if you agree).

Thanks Ashish, for outlining these avenues.

Funnily enough, Educere speaks to both the higher education sector and the school level. The remit of PeDAGoG is very well aligned to the former. Since the paradigm for me is intergenerational learning, I have trouble separating out the two: one impacts the other and there is some benefit to having that space open for all. One key overlapping areas of interest is teacher preparation (so, tertiary education for school educators).

I also think for those of us wanting to facilitate change or attempting to actively engender it through our practices, combining and doubling up forces makes a lot of sense and I would be very open to explore what some merging or separation (or our dual foci) might look like.

The work with alternative education initiatives is emerging on the backburner, and it would be great to start showcasing the work of your colleagues.

In my current position in Oxford, I can actively explore the Higher Education (de-canonising) element and have colleagues to pull into this here, so some kind of collaboration with PeDAGoG in the first instance, might make most sense.

Would a meeting this Wednesday work? Let me know what your availability is like; look forward to taking the conversation forward with Luci.

With best wishes,

Thanks, Luci and Elizabeth.

Given the range of work within Educere, I can think of 2-3 possibilities for conversation (and perhaps collaboration) ... one is with the network PeDAGoG (https://globaltapestryofalternatives.org/pedagog) a fairly recent initiative of the Global Tapestry of Alternatives, which currently has about 90 people (academics, activists) from around the world, aiming to share, collaborate, etc on alternative pedagogies (mostly focusing on 'higher' education levels). This network is still finding its feet, but has a few things going on including sharing of alternative curricula/materials.

The second is with my colleagues in kalpavriksh who have been doing alternative education work at school level, including developing locally relevant material on environment/conservation and conducting sessions with kids/faculty. They in turn are in touch with several other such groups/individuals working with kids at school level.

Given that while there is overlap, these two are somewhat distinct, I'm wondering if we could think of separate conversations between you and them? I myself am not so experienced in this field (though of course much of what I do has educational components!), and would try to hand over coordination of these conversations and future possible collaboration to colleagues in these initiatives.

Let me know what you think,

thanks,

Ashish

Good morning Ashish and Luci. Thanks for the introduction, Laura.

Educere is a global network of locally homed community initiatives, whose common and convening axes are formal and informal education, wellbeing and environmental sustainability. These initiatives are rooted in the locality; local environment, language, culture, heritage, like this https://youtu.be/YHerQ-3EKfs

These are "alternative" education initiatives, promoting alternative paradigms in word and practice. The learning technology ALT part is something we have piloted in knowledge exchange meetings and through a sister social enterprise delivering a methods course using engaged digital pedagogy. This is to say, there have been two arms to the online component.

We have been thinking, together with some recent LSE anthropology interns, about the online "global" component of both knowledge exchange activities for local projects, which may involve a platform for indigenous paradigm sharing with renumerated options to support their work on the ground; as well as specifically Higher Education ALT possibilities, talks and networking. With the latter, this would be more directly plugged into my current role Oxford's Center for Teaching and Learning, and is an area under development.

I hope this gives you a rough overview, happy to answer questions or provide other areas of background.

Warmly,
