I sent this yesterday but the listserver bounced saying I had to many recipients: The problem being that we do not yet know the total of those invovled; and we have not got a way to articulate the loose grouping so far at southampton with the P2P communication channels – Franco: when the bounce reaches you, it might be as well to add the people named to the circuation for this list I also copy in the two people who will be working this the net phase (till 2 september) whie I'm on fieldwork: Prof sally Jane Norman and Dr Lorraine Warren I paste the original message and the list f recipients: I sent it at 4.00pm BST; only three comments retrned so far, all supportive ; we have also got a lot of local partners some listed who have now sent support messages, important fpr our tatctical presentation Sean +++++++++++++++++++++ Dear Colleagues The team asked me to to a first draft of the EoI I am delighted to acknowledge the generous help of Prof Sally Jane Norman from Sussex who has come aboard and been a rock I've also taken the liberty of contacting more potential partners. Unfoprtunately everyone else is at the beach - which is why the wild-eyed trot got the job of drafting this Absolutely the first draft. I've left space for additions, and of course we will have to rewrite as a group I may have put in too much detail on personnel; ad we may need it for a more strategic expression in the section on Partnership; colleagues will also I trust have theior own drums to beat as to 'orograms of work' - I think the model may be good; and I hope that we reflect the originality of he proposal By the way Prof Ian Hargreaves has agreed to come and give a talk at Winchester in the autumn term; we are just negotiating dates with lawrence Lessig to arrange a dialogue between them. Unfortunately we are not able to make their dates coincide with Michel bauwens visit here in december, but a ball will be very truly rolling by then Technicalities: I leave to walk the Pilgrim's Way on Thirsday morning and will have little or no e-mail access. Lorraine Warren <L.Warren(a)soton.ac.uk<mailto:[email protected]>> kindly offered to pick up the baton during my absence - I shoud be available on the 2nd of September I had thought of posting on the P2P wiki or to Google Docs for editing but with so many hands, I'm not sure whether that is the best way: recommendations would be excellent With thanks ] Sean Matthews N.S. <N.S.Matthews(a)soton.ac.uk>; Appleby K.M. <K.M.Appleby(a)soton.ac.uk>; Beales R.M. <richard.beales(a)soton.ac.uk>; Brailsford S.C. <S.C.Brailsford(a)soton.ac.uk>; Butler P. <P.Butler(a)soton.ac.uk>; Earl G.P. <graeme.earl(a)soton.ac.uk>; Foster S.A. <S.A.Foster(a)soton.ac.uk>; Harris L.J. <L.J.Harris(a)soton.ac.uk>; Kling G. <G.Kling(a)soton.ac.uk>; Moreau L. <lavm(a)soton.ac.uk>; Parikka J. <J.Parikka(a)soton.ac.uk>; Price N. <N.Price(a)soton.ac.uk>; Reynolds N. <N.Reynolds(a)soton.ac.uk>; Saxby S.J. <S.J.Saxby(a)soton.ac.uk>; Warren L. <L.Warren(a)soton.ac.uk>; Woolley D. <D.Woolley(a)soton.ac.uk>; Nazzini R. <R.Nazzini(a)soton.ac.uk>; Hannigan B.M. <B.M.Hannigan(a)soton.ac.uk>; Reid E.S. <E.S.REID(a)soton.ac.uk>; White W.H. <whw(a)soton.ac.uk>; Sally-Jane Norman <S.J.Norman(a)sussex.ac.uk>

Hi to all, we are almost one month behind the deadline and we got no progress at all in the proposal writing for the "Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy" (http://p2pfoundation.net/projects/doku.php/centre:resume) At this point we would need to evaluate if we got the necessary commitment to achieve the proposal preparation objective. It would be good to know if Jussi and Volker would be able to lead this project as was expected. Thanks and best regards, -- Franco Iacomella

Dear Sally & Sean Sounds a good result. We do need to be careful about what and how much we expect P2P to do as from the looks of things they are an international organisation. Now that is fine but we may not be able to flow grant monies to them.. Niki P checked with AHRC and their response was that an international company could participate in ‘mutually beneficial’ hub based activities that were badged under the heading of ‘international cooperation’ and paid for using the grant. The reciprocity would arise from the fact the company might be making a contribution to the project (indirectly) through their participation and bringing new knowledge/expertise into the arena. However, it would not be possible to pay an international company for other goods and services or enter into a contracting/sub-contracting relationship on a one-to-one basis using AHRC grant monies. Of course that was with respect to them being a company… are they? Before we can get definitive advice from AHRC can you confirm what type of organisation they are and in what capacity you would expect them to be involved? If you are going ahead with a telecom probably worth including Nikki Matthews as she probably has most capacity to provide the RIS support to you at the moment. Hi Sean I’ve just had a conversation with Jeremy about this. We both feel this is something Southampton should be going for, given existing strengths across all three schools in the Faculty. I do realise time is tight and it’s a really awkward time of year, but these sorts of things always seem to crop up at short notice and at a bad time. And as you say, it’s only an EoI at this stage so worth having a crack at. Jeremy has kindly agreed to be named on the grant, although this would have to be a sort of figurehead role – we do need someone with his level of reputation in the innovation area but realistically he’s not going to be able to devote much time in practice. We now need to sort out who is doing what and what support you need in putting the EoI together. I’m happy to have a quick phone call /skype chat before the end of this week – I am away and out of email contact next week but am back in civilisation, although not Southampton, the week after. Certainly realism says, don't spend too much time on a bid which may get nowhere. But since all that is required by September is an expresssion of interest (EoI), the demand isn't too absurd. Concerning the attached: I have little recent knowledge of the UK system; and my biases are easily apparent. I imagine a Centre having more than one program of work. Niki P was going to double check that point with AHRC. This is important for the Centre structure. Do all participating (associated?) researchers have to be residents at Southampton? Exchanging researchers and Ph.D. students would be an obvious form of cooperation with partners like Berkman and IvIR. Who would be paying: the sending or the receiving institution? Best, Volker
