xorg-x11 es liberado mayormente bajo la licencia original de Xfree (version 1.0)
(no la GPL-2), que es GPL-compatible, aunque algunas partes están
cubiertas por otras varias licencias

Las versiones de Xfree86  posteriores a la version 4.3.99.903 (XFree86 4.4.0 RC3)
usan la licencia xfree 1.1. El problema con la GPL surge de la 
clausula de "reconocimiento":

"The end-user documentation included with the redistribution, if any, must include the
following acknowledgment: "This product includes software developed by The XFree86
Project, Inc (http://www.xfree86.org/) and its contributors", in the same place and form
as other third-party acknowledgments. Alternately, this acknowledgment may appear in the
software itself, in the same form and location as other such third-party
acknowledgments."

Segun la FSF esto la hace GPL-incompatible (aunque sigue siendo una licencia libre),
mientras que la gente de Xfree86 dice que sigue siendo GPL-compatible.
