If you are less than 100 years old you have lived your entire life under a
very carefully crafted system of international relationships. It began
during the First World War, and really came to form after the Second World
War. It's far from perfect but as human treaty networks go over the course
of history, it has worked pretty well. We are watching it now come
unravelled because of a man who, if he is not a Russian agent, might as
well be, because he has been protecting and advancing the geopolitical
goals of Vladimir Putin since the day he was sworn into office. Indeed,
that's how got into office. And here's the important thing: 87% of
Republicans support him. We have a fifth column in the United States either
through ignorance, stupidity, racism, or fear, that did vote, and is
prepared to vote again for Donald Trump. I don't think the Democratic Party
is competent to thwart what is happening; this gets down to the citizen
level. The only effective response to stop this is overwhelming vote
against the Republican Party. They must be cleaned out of government, and
men and women committed to wellbeing ahead of profit must be elected.

*The G 7 Meeting*

President Donald Trump said Saturday that his relationships with other
Western leaders are perfect, but an acrimonious end to the G7 summit showed
how the transatlantic alliance has never been so split.
A fragile show of unity at the meeting in Quebec was blown apart, with the
group’s most powerful member, the United States, isolated from the rest of
the world’s most industrialized democracies after Trump pulled support for
a common communique blaming what he said were “false statements” by
Canada’s leader.
“PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings
only to give a news conference after I left saying that, ‘US Tariffs were
kind of insulting’ and he ‘will not be pushed around.’ Very dishonest &
weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!’ Trump tweeted
from Air Force One — hours after he left the summit for Singapore.

On June 1, Phillip Alston, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme
poverty and human rights, released a report

the United States. It outlined his searing critique of the Trump
administration’s policies, arguing that they are deepening entrenched
inequality and increasing misery.

Alston painted a grim picture of the country’s current circumstances and
its likely trajectory, not only for those at the bottom of the
socioeconomic ladder but for American society itself.

The report presents a withering appraisal of American exceptionalism. As
Alston observes, “the United States is alone among developed countries in
insisting that, while human rights are of fundamental importance, they do
not include rights that guard against dying of hunger, dying from a lack of
access to healthcare or growing up in a context of total deprivation.”

The high rates of child and youth poverty are particularly alarming, since
they “perpetuate the intergenerational transmission of poverty very
effectively, and ensure that the American dream is rapidly becoming the
American illusion”.

While people outside the US might be shocked by the conclusions of the
report, for many Americans they are painfully clear. Aspects of the US

Underneath the chaff of the headlines is where to look to see what is
actually going on. That's what I try to put into SR. I believe our
democracy is under a coherent and well-funded assault. Much of it involves
subtle changes remarked on by few, except those affected. This report is an
example on what I mean. Small town papers where the Trump voter lives are
being strangled, replaced by Fox and Sinclair. Basically using the private
sector so that the people trying to craft this transition make great
profit, a  state media has been created. There is the potential of some
good news in this though as the lede paragraph spells out. This is how
Neo-feudalism is being constructed. It will allow the appearance of
democracy while, in fact, controlling it, through a mix of voter
suppression, gerrymandering, manipulation of media, and the legal bribery
Citizens United permits. A chain of think tanks, institutes, and the
funding of professors who advance the model, is providing the intellectual
justification for what is happening.

The newsprint tariffs are being collected, but they are not finalized yet.
The Commerce Department is set to finalize its decision by August.

A dozen House lawmakers have introduced legislation to remove President
Trump’s tariffs on Canadian newsprint so a study can be done on how much
those tariffs are crushing local newspapers around the country.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Kristi Noem, R-S.D., is a response to the 22
percent tariff that the Trump administration has imposed on some Canadian
newsprint since the beginning of this year. Noem said that tariff has led
to rising costs for local newspapers, and are a threat to their survival.

“In recent years, new tariffs on Canadian newsprint have increased paper
prices by 20 to 30 percent,” Noem said in a statement. “That’s significant.
A paper that services around 20,000 customers, for instance, could see
paper costs rise by about a quarter-million dollars annually, threatening
the newspaper’s survival.”

Local papers have been complaining this year about rising costs, and Noem
and her colleagues are hoping to give them at least a temporary break from
the cost hike.

Brzezinski, who has been in a vicious feud with Trump for most of his
presidency, made the extraordinary charge while appearing on “MSNBC Live
with Stephanie Ruhle,” citing “someone who spoke” to Trump about his life
in the White House.

The comments came up after Ruhle interviewed Michael Avenatti, the attorney
for adult-film actress Stormy Daniels, over remarks by Trump attorney Rudy
Giuliani about his client. Giuliani attacked the credibility of Daniels,
saying that “if you’re going to sell your body for money, you just don’t
have a reputation.”

“The hypocrisy is astounding,” Brzezinski said of Giuliani’s remarks about
Daniels, who says that she slept with Trump and was paid to keep quiet.

“Because I know someone who spoke to Donald Trump recently about life in
the White House,” Brzezinski continued, “and Donald Trump’s biggest
complaint was that he’s not allowed to watch porn in the White House.”
