KDM is the second welcome screen, it shows a red background with a mixer 
console, did you choosed english there?

Well, so you are not running kpersonalizer: the first screen ask you for a 
country and language

 | chose musix to boot, grub initialises boot, but instantly freezes and
 | shows up error 16, and do not load anything, and shows: press any key, i
 | press and i get to the main grub menu again.

Use another GNU/Linux distro
