I can't help with the first question, but this last synergy-cad thingy 
also occurs here on a kubuntu-6.06 install, 100% of the time.  I suppose 
one could add it to a keep list somehow?  But I'm not that familiar with 
adept or synaptics.  Both do it everytime.
