Is it a moral obligation to make our hardware designs free, just as it is to make our software free? Does maintaining our freedom require rejecting hardware made from nonfree designs?" Richard Stallman's latest article ["Why We Need Free Digital Hardware Designs"](http://www.wired.com/2015/03/need-free-digital-hardware-designs/), published yesterday in Wired magazine, addresses these questions. His clear and nuanced answers, which take into account both the world of today and the future we are building, show us how to ensure our freedom in both. Stallman will give the opening keynote, discussing free software, free hardware, and other things at [LibrePlanet](http://libreplanet.org/2015/), the annual free software conference produced by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) with MIT's Student Information Processing Board (SIPB). The conference will take place in Cambridge, MA, March 21-22 at MIT's Stata Center. LibrePlanet is an annual conference for people who care about their digital freedoms, bringing together software developers, policy experts, activists, and computer users to learn skills, share accomplishments, and face challenges facing the free software movement. LibrePlanet 2015 will feature programming for all ages and experience levels. [Online registration](https://my.fsf.org/civicrm/event/register?reset=1&id=20) for LibrePlanet 2015 is now open; attendees may also register in person at the event. LibrePlanet is always gratis for [associate members](https://my.fsf.org/associate/support_freedom/join_fsf) of the FSF and students with a school ID.
