Luciano,
Please keep it coming: Since last evening more than 30,000 of you have sent emails to Congress to ask your reps NOT TO cosponsor the House version of the Internet Blacklist Bill.
*This is really urgent: We are expecting the legislation to be introduced TOMORROW.*
*Please click here to ask your Congressmember to NOT COSPONSOR the legislation.* <http://act.demandprogress.org/go/314?akid=976.250611.XQAhBf&t=2>
Republicans in the House are pushing a version of the bill that's so extreme that it could effectively destroy Youtube, Twitter, and other sites that rely on user-generated content by making the sites' owners legally responsible for everything their users post.
*Nobody will want to take that risk, so sites like Youtube and Twitter could be forced to shut down.*
We know that sounds crazy, but we've heard this from staff and industry lobbyists who have direct knowledge of the legislation.**
*Please click here to push back against this ridiculous, Internet-crushing power-grab. <http://act.demandprogress.org/go/314?akid=976.250611.XQAhBf&t=3> *
Facebook, Myspace, and Google+ would be at risk. The bill's cyberlocker and streaming provisions could affect your iPhone, Android, AmazonCloud, Pandora, Grooveshark and even your email accounts.
And all of this is being driven by a few major corporations who are trying to protect their private profits at the expense of innovation and Americans' free speech rights.
*Will you click here to ask your Congressmember to refuse to cosponsor the legislation, at least until they've heard our concerns? <http://act.demandprogress.org/go/314?akid=976.250611.XQAhBf&t=4>*
Thanks,
The Demand Progress team
*PS: We need to completely overwhelm the social networking sites with info about this legislation so we can bombard Congress with constituent contacts:*
