Allot of Ron Paul's policy ideas are nuts but the American people want to vote for him because they want to start a revolution. Ron Paul as US President will be a revolution. The people are totally disillusioned with elites and intellectuals from both the left and the right. They have stopped listening. People want political change because they have awareness of how corrupt (and antiquated) the system is. I doubt conspiracy theories have much to do with it. What's seems quite silly is all the so-called libertarians who look to a single man (Dr. Paul) as a savior. Voting is *NOT* the way to start a revolution. Voting for representatives (giving away your power of decision making) is elitism in action. To dispose of the elites you must stop playing their political and economic games and engage in direct action. Subvert and divert by creating alternative spaces and methodologies. I watched Ron Paul closely during the last election and I don't get any racist vibe from him at all. I think that's just opponents making political hay. -Karl

To critique Ron Paul on his policies and statements about race is to miss what the Ron Paul political movement means. Its about a popular desire to disenfranchise the elites who have dominated American political life since the Civil War. Its about removing an entire privileged class from their position of power. As I written before, his polices and beliefs maybe nuts, irrational and racist but people are not supporting his policies. They want to send a message to the elites by voting for Ron Paul. Its the ultimate negative, protest vote from a nation that no longer believes in liberal democracy. On Thu, Dec 29, 2011 at 1:54 PM, Michel Bauwens <[email protected]> wrote:

I agree with that assessment, but voting for a canditade you disagree with is very dangerous, as Michael gurstein points out, but the most important thing is that people actually know what Ron Paul stands for, and that story still needs to be told. Then people can vote in conscience, One thing is to focus on issues that many progressive people can agree with, like Nader's agreement, but this should not obfuscate the other parts of the program.
