Re: [P2P-F] [NetworkedLabour] [tapas] [commoning] support appreciated for Plan C, a commons transition plan for greek civil movements
dear Apostolis, here is a google doc version, which I will update now with the latest version from the wiki version, https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UXd5R3W09RwryXebN5eqDt4OAvdm9ttseLj3Q0gu... On Thu, Jul 16, 2015 at 3:28 PM, Apostolis Xekoukoulotakis < [email protected]> wrote:
Michell and all, wouldn't it be better if you created a google doc that we could all add content to? I could share it to the OVN group and we could all create a plan C together.
Some solutions might contradict each other, but each person/group can write his proposals under his/its name.
We could also comment on each other's proposals. John Restakis for example explains on some interesting challenges for the commonification of state-property. I would like to explain in more detail the OVN proposal so that some of them may be removed. The OVN model is different that the cooperative model.
Keep in mind that there was already some interest to create such a non-profit organization in Heraklion Crete but it halted because of the absence of legal advice/expertise.

The legislative framework in Greece has no provisions for the kinds of legal structures that would facilitate the kind of commoning/co-operative structures required to support such a system; 2. There is little to no understanding among most of the the populace or the local governmental institutions about the theory and practice of commons resource management; 3. The transfer of state assets to local control would open the gate to further manipulation of the process by corrupt local officials, organizations, and private business interests. This could end up being catastrophic for the management and protection of these resources. Any such process requires the passage of appropriate legislation, intensive popular education and training on the meaning and management of commons ownership and management, and the reform of local governmental structures so as to minimize the opportunity for corruption and the seizure of state and public assets. All this takes time, programming, a committed public policy, and a team of people deployed to research, design, and implement such a transition."
