Maybe you don't have to start from scratch. The eCars Now! -community is international, and has a functioning internet infrastructure: http://ecars-now.wikidot.com/ There seems to be a group in the US: http://ecars-now.wikidot.com/local:start And, what's best, they have a motorbike-project as well (the main guy, Henkka Palonen, is really something, you should get in touch with him): http://yty.net/c/Random_EV_does_Cagiva/Introduction.html Best, T:T On 5/1/11 8:49 PM, Michel Bauwens wrote:
Dear Jeff,
I hope you don't mind that I share this request with some friendly mailing lists, with lots of people involved in similar projects,
for starters, you may look specifically at other open mobility projects, see http://p2pfoundation.net/Product_Hacking#Mobility:_Vehicles, to see how they have approached similar problems as you are wrestling with now
a project like eCars is specifically dedicated to conversion designs, so may be similiar in intent; Tere in cc knows more about this specific project
my hunch is that a combination of software depository (sourceforce, github), a wiki (we use mediawiki), and a mailing list is the key for the internal community, while a blog may be appropriate to inform the external sympathizers and the 'world', about the progress of your project,
however, I hope that the people here can give you a more specific recommendation for the sharing of designs

Hi Michel, I saw your video on TED. I'm beginning to build a diy series/hybrid motorcycle evolving into a diy series/hybrid auto conversion and want to host an open source community/project to collaborate with people worldwide. Not sure how to start. I've looked through your website, but not sure where step #1 is. I'm thinking I need a software platform/management software where everyone can come together in a forum format and also share drawings, photos, etc. I know yahoo groups has been used for this in the past, but I'm sure there are more evolved systems in the public domain today.
Thanks for your help. Mother Earth News sold over 60,000 of these plans for auto conversions over the last 4-decades, but I can't find anyone who has built one. I'd like to start off with the motorcycle first since that would be less expensive than a car.
