I was at the BItcoin Conference this weekend. The lead Bitcoin developer, Gavin, said his only contact with Sathoshi was through conventional software development channels and email exchanges from anonymous accounts. Gavin hasn't heard from Sathoshi since he handed the project off to him a few months ago. The general consensus among conference attendees was that "Sathoshi" was a native English speaker and highly skilled developer/cryptographer who probably has worked for large institutions (intelligence, corporate, etc.) The conference tshirts said "I am Sathoshi" on the front. I don't think he's going to pop up anytime soon.

my guess is that he is a shy, perhaps autistic, Japanese geek, who is just overwhelmed by the attention ... I did see report but didn't keep the links, as to the effect that he had 'retired' from the project,

Yes, I haven't been able to find much outside of his forum posts. Thanks for the help, anyway. There are rumors that he used to post to the Cypherpunks email list back in the late 90s, if that helps jog anything...

Hi Adrian,
unfortunately, he seems in 'hiding' and I even heard he's no longer involved in bitcoin, now developed and funded by a libertarian group ...
just in case, perhaps my hacker friend Jaromil knows more ...

Hi Michel,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm working on a story about Satoshi Nakamoto and Bitcoin. I saw that Nakamoto posted on the p2p foundation forum a while ago and was wondering if you might have had any communication with him after or before that post. Obviously, he's quite mysterious, and I'd be interested in hearing about your interactions with him, if there were any. And if you know anyone who might know more, please do let me know.
Best,
Adrian
