Hi Jan,
I think until the statement "...Technologists, urbanists and artists are beginning to "urbanize" technology..." I quite agree with what SS says.
After that she becomes a bit sloppy with "... I have long thought that all the major infrastructures, from sewage to electricity and broadband, should be covered by transparent walls and floors, so if you are waiting for the bus, you can actually see how the city all works and begin to get engaged".
It is clearly an aesthetic point of view that does not match with the issues she stated before. Also she is clumsy in the paragraph about the "leaks"...probably she is a beginner in P2P, etc.
All in all it is a very interesting post for an old school academic, even though I suspect she ignores the discussion about P2P Urbanism etc..
Best regards

This seems idealistic in the extreme – does she mean that the city administrations would use technologies that give citizens tools to take the power from them? It is almost as the old tale about the mice discussing putting a bell on the cat.****

That's interesting Michel. There's an interview with Rudy Giuliani, he explained that in order to " clean" New York, he needed first to clean the corrupt policemen, but then to improve the cars. What police can learn inside the cars' computer is absolutely amazing. They only need a name or a plate license, minor data and that's it. They know everything about each person, location, the car, whatever. ****
You don't see it in America, below USA. Of course, it's too expensive.** **
Here, in Southern California, a bicycle is stolen and you'll see two helicopters in the area, immediately.****
