Institutions and Self-Governance in Historical Perspective', Pamplona (Spain), October 30-31, 2014 (deadline abstracts March 25, 2014)* On October 30-31, 2014, the research group involved in the research project '*"Common Rules". The regulation of institutions for managing commons in Europe, 1100 - 1800'* <http://www.collective-action.info/_PRO_NWO_CommonRules_Main>will organize an international workshop, hosted by the University of Navarre in Pamplona (Spain). This workshop is aimed to discover how efficient and effective regulation can be developed, executed by well-functioning institutions. Earlier research has shown that regulation could allow an efficient use of common pool resources, even under severe external stress, but we do not know exactly how the commoners made sure that the body of rules remained effective, efficient, and sufficiently simple for all to understand and apply. Trying to find an answer to this research question will be the main focus of this workshop. Paper abstracts have to be submitted *by the 25th of March, 2014*. The organizers encourage in particular submissions that introduce new historical source material and novel ways of using historical sources, inspired by other social sciences. The organizers welcome in particular quantitative and long-term studies, that are also able to connect historical developments to current evolutions. A selection of the best papers will be considered for publication as part of a special issue for a relevant peer-reviewed journal in the field (in English). *Click here for call for papers <http://www.collective-action.info/_AGE_20141030_UPN-Pamplona>* *Call for papers - IASC 3rd European Meeting, Umeå, Sweden, September 16-19 <16-19>, 2014 (deadline abstracts April 1, 2014)* <http://www.slu.se/iasc-europe2014>
