---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chris Watkins <[email protected]>an interesting mention of a commons in the heart of industrial society. "The problem is that when you outsource manufacturing in a foreign country far away, you are not just losing jobs. You risk losing something more important: knowledge. And even more important than that: the capacity to innovate. When knowledge and innovation are involved, you’re not just relocating a business. You may be relocating your future. When all large businesses do it, based on the economics they have been taught at business schools, whole sectors of the economy disappear permanently. The conventional economic thinking that we find in this book, as Pisano and Shih point out, “ignores the fact that new cutting-edge high-tech products often depend in some critical way on the commons of a mature industry. Lose that commons, and you lose the opportunity to be the home of the hot new businesses of tomorrow.”' How Modern Economics Is Built On 'The World's Dumbest Idea' http://www.forbes.com/sites/stevedenning/2013/07/22/how-modern-economics-is-...
