Musix 0.59 CD does not boot
Hi, I seem not to be able to boot Musix 0.59 CD even though several other live linux CD's boot just fine. I noticed that someone had a similar problem with Musix 0.50: https://lists.ourproject.org/pipermail/musix-users/2006-August/000280.html In that previous case, the user managed to boot the CD on a different computer. However, I only have one computer to play with, and thus would like to hear if there is anything I could do. Was there any conclusion about the problem with Musix 0.50? If booting the CD just does not work for me, is there any workaround, i.e., boot from floppy or HD (just remember that I can not boot the CD to create such floppies)? Thank you in advance, Jack Langdon
my issue was with the hardware, so i have the question of what kind of computer do you have? it may be just me, but if your processlr i really 450 mhz, that seems a bit slow for the musix cd, cause musix has a lot of thing running in the back, but to be on the safe side i say redownload the iso image and burn it again and see what happens Jack Langdon <[email protected]> wrote: My setup (which does not boot Musix 0.59 CD (but does boot many other live CD's)) is as follows: Motherboard: CPU Type Intel Celeron-A, 450 MHz (4.5 x 100) Motherboard Name Abit BH6 (2 ISA, 5 PCI, 1 AGP, 3 DIMM) Motherboard Chipset Intel 82440BX System Memory 192 MB (SDRAM) BIOS Type Award Modular (01/07/99) Storage: Floppy Drive GENERIC NEC FLOPPY DISK Disk Drive GENERIC IDE DISK TYPE47 Optical Drive HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4120B (DVD:8x, CD:12x/8x/32x DVD-ROM/CD-RW) Optical Drive NEC CD-ROM DRIVE:273 (4x CD-ROM) BIOS Properties: Vendor Award Software International, Inc. Thanks for reporting: there are users that had used Musix 0.59 without problems, that's odd... I will wait a few hours to see if the ISO image is really damaged: does the md5 check goes well?
md5: 3ea12a2014a3d60e208f17a1b845734b

The same happens to me untill I change the cd (rw) and re-burn it at slower velocity. The checksum was right .After that everything went fine with the default boot ,I did just a small test.I must check it more extensively . -- Marcos Guglielmetti * Director del desarrollo de Musix GNU+Linux, 100% Software Libre * CD Donwload: (http://www.musix.org.ar/en/) (www.pc-musica.com.ar/musix) * Videos, programas y otras cosas en: ftp://musix.ourproject.org/pub/musix/ * Reporte de errores a: https://www.musix.org.ar/wiki/index.php?title=Problemas-Bugs *IRC: #musix channel on freenode

Well, that's better than before... try with the boot cheatcode: videovesa Then you must see what the hell is doing the system in the startup process, algo, you can try with different cheatcodes: noacpi, nousb, nopci, no.... Or you can try with: failsafe then, tell me :D

Well, that's better than before...
try with the boot cheatcode: videovesa
Then you must see what the hell is doing the system in the startup process, algo, you can try with different cheatcodes: noacpi, nousb, nopci, no....
Or you can try with: failsafe
then, tell me :D

Unfortunately, Musix 0.59b19 does not boot in my PC any better than 0.59b15 or 0.59b18. It is not recognized as a bootable CD. (For those interested, more details can be found in earlier posts in this thread.) Marcos Guglielmetti escribió:

Hi,
I seem not to be able to boot Musix 0.59 CD even though several other live linux CD's boot just fine. I noticed that someone had a similar problem with Musix 0.50:
https://lists.ourproject.org/pipermail/musix-users/2006-August/000280.html
In that previous case, the user managed to boot the CD on a different computer. However, I only have one computer to play with, and thus would like to hear if there is anything I could do.
Was there any conclusion about the problem with Musix 0.50?
No, just that: "I downloaded the 0.50 iso image at work, burned it with cdrecord, and it booted successfully. The problem seems to be with my PC at home. Sorry to bother you with this. By the way . . . 0.50 is very impressive! Nice work! "
If booting the CD just does not work for me, is there any workaround, i.e., boot from floppy or HD (just remember that I can not boot the CD to create such floppies)?
Yes: I have no floppy here, I dont use them, but, it's possible, try using: /KNOPPIX/utils/* From: /KNOPPIX/knoppix-docs/KNOPPIX-FAQ-EN.txt "Q: My computer won't boot from CD. What should I do? A: Look in your computer's BIOS to see whether it's set to boot from CD (on most computers you need to push the "delete" key during the RAM test). If this is already set, your computer may not be able to read the CD (some notebooks have problems with black-coated CD's, for example). Some computers will only use the new BIOS settings after a hard reset. If your computer doesn't support booting from CD, you can create a boot floppy using the "mkbootfloppy" program. " I think it's talking about: /KNOPPIX/utils/MkImage-ct.exe
Thank you in advance,
Tell us it it's works for you
