[implementations-list] Alessandro, I think we should get people to agree to assign copyright. Do you?
Hi Alessandro, The FSF requires that all contributors sign a form agreeing to assign their copyright to the FSF before the code can get into Emacs. The FSF copyright clerk, Mr. Robertson, said that any code contribution 15 lines or more might be copyright-significant. In the thread I just forwarded to the list, you can see that he said that. I think we should get contributors to agree that they will send a copyright assignment form to the FSF when, hopefully, Vimpulse will get into Emacs. Otherwise, if you ask a contributor to assign copyright and they don't agree, it could be a big headache. I assume you would have to delete the code they contributed plus all code that requires the deleted code. I propose this. 1. I edit vimpulse.el saying how to submit patches: a) attach a patch to Trac b) mention that you are willing to assign copyright to the GNU Project if we ask you to later 2. If someone submits a patch 15 lines or more and forgot to do 1b), you ask them, and if they don't agree, you ignore the patch. You are maintainer, so this is only a suggestion to you. What do you think? By the way, I have asked at http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.devel/108538 if Vimpulse can be shipped with Emacs. We will see what they say. -Jason
Totally ok for me :) how's the situtation of the current code? has every coder agreed ? 2009/6/21 Jason Spiro <[email protected]>:

I've never asked anybody except you and Brad; you both agreed. I agree too.
From the changelog, it looks like the only other people who actually contributed code (not just ideas) are:
Samuel Padgett (IIRC I copied only non-copyright-significant keybindings, and less than 15 lines of them, from his Usenet post, and rewrote the other functions without looking at his implementation code) <samuel.padgett at gmail.com>, Mieszko who sent a patch that touched less than 15 LOC (lines of code) <sillyfox at yahoo.com>, cppjavaperl <cppjavaperl at yahoo.com> who seems to have touched less than 15 lines of current code, Ryoichi Kanetaka who touched less than 15 LOC <ryoichi.kanetaka at gmail.com>, Weihua JIANG who touched less than 15 LOC <weihua.jiang at gmail.com>, and Frank Fischer who has added way more than 15 LOC <frank.fischer at s2001.tu-chemnitz.de> So we only need agreement from Frank. Frank, do you know why copyright assignment is important? If Vimpulse gets into Emacs, do you agree that you will assign your copyright to the FSF? I think this means that they will mail you a form, and you will have to read, agree, sign, and mail it back to them. Frank, when you reply to me, please click "Reply to All". Cheers, -Jason

I agree, no problem. I've just seen the new version of vimpulse I wasn't aware of. I should see if my latest visual-mode stuff still works (propably not ;)). It's good to see that development goes on. Bye, Frank
Hi Frank, I knew yesterday you had worked on visual mode to make it feel more natural. What do you think about the current implementation? Is it worse (apart from the fact it isn't possible to switch from block mode to the other kinds of visual modes) than your version? I like the current version in that it works like vim and it looks the same (the character/line under the cursor in normal/linewise are highlighted). What do you think about the new stuff in general?
