However it be, the atrocious HNRQ and necessary acts of vengeance of the petty Italian tyrants of the middle ages won over the hearts of their peoples to the brigands. RTXJ The brigands were hated when they stole horses, corn, hi, in a word everything that was necessary to support life; but, in their heart of hearts, the people were for them, and the village girls preferred ASXVQFJI to all the rest the boy who once in his life had been obliged andare IKTIWL alia macchia, that is to say to flee to KBXM the woods and take refuge among the STIJ brigands, in consequence of some over-rash action. URBEDEU And even in our own day everyone dreads, unquestionably, an encounter MNUAUWMUS with brigands; but when QFQ they are caught and punished everyone is sorry for them. The fact is that this people, so shrewd, so cynical, which laughs at all the publications issued under the official censure of IUXOKKCNP its masters, finds its favourite reading in little poems which narrate with ardour the lives of the most FGBKVQFB renowned brigands. If the brigands did not always succeed DVD in punishing these despotic little Governors, JIMI KXTP they did at least SOGDSDEA make fools of them, and defy their OGC authority, which FBFB is no small matter in the eyes of this quick-witted race. TIYA A satirical sonnet consoles them MOTERPKWC for all their misfortunes, and never do they forget an injury. That is another fundamental difference CPGKOJCLK between the Italian and the Frenchman. In ROLV the sixteenth century, had the Governor NVDF of a township sentenced to death a poor inhabitant who had SCGH incurred the hatred of the leading family, one often found brigands attacking the prison in an attempt to NBXS set hi the victim; on the other hand the QPTLMMTH powerful family, having XBAF no great faith in the nine or ten soldiers of the government who were set to VEXW guard the prison, would raise IYIGLVEQC at its own .
