Volunteering
by Tobias Polzin 17 Feb '20

17 Feb '20

Hi Gabi (and others), in the chat you wrote: In the Czech republic the mindset towards volunteering and giving substantial time for free is still not embedded in the culture, mindset...if you would have any tips how to encourage this, very happy to learn from you! I wonder, if there aren't aspects of volunteering in the Czech culture, eg. for sports or religious reasons, that could be a connecting point. Possibly there are also organisations that organize volunteering. Google showed me https://www.hest.cz/cz/o-hestia/about-us "The mission of HESTIA is to promote and develop volunteering in Czech republic.". I don't know if they understand the same thing under volunteering, but it could be a connecting point. Somehow we have been listed in a volunteering agency in Hamburg, and we receive volunteering requests from time to time from there. The problem for me is: What to offer a remote volunteer that does not use more organisational time ressources. In the service space TED talk, Nipun Mehta suggests "let volunteers organize volunteers", but haven't found a good way, how to do it, as it needs a decent overview over the mission and the organisation to find an appropriate place for someone. If you have any ideas regarding that, I would be very interested. Best wishes Tobias -- Ich werde versuchen, mehr Glück und weniger Unglück in der Welt um mich herum zu stiften. Re: [AfH-Chapters] The new concept for the AfH-course
by Mark Williamson 14 Feb '20

Hi Ruth, Thanks for this. Alex is the key person working on the new version of the course, so I'll leave him to reply on this. Alex - not sure if you're on the "AfH-Chapters" distribution list so I've cc'd you in - please see message from Ruth below. As for the Get-Togethers, yes that's helpful feedback Ruth, thanks - and it's consistent what we've found elsewhere too. The best formula seems to be adhering closely to the monthly themes (e.g. Friendly February, Mindful March etc) but allowing the group to contribute ideas, content and activities around that theme - e.g. someone leading a new mindfulness activity, sharing a short reading/quote on that topic, organising a creative activity relating to the theme etc. Have a great weekend. The new concept for the AfH-course
by Ruth Habermehl 14 Feb '20

14 Feb '20

Dear Alex, dear Mark, On Tuesday you spoke of a new course concept. I am very interested in it, regardless of the language problem. (Maybe for the time being it is possible to translate single modules.) I myself would also find it quite exciting to get to know a little more about this development process. Maybe even more people from the chapters will do the same. About the monthly get-together-meetings: the Frankfurt people mention, besides the personal contact and the subsequent visit to the pub, above all, that staying on the topic is an important point for them. Greetings from Frankfurt Ruth

Recording and Minutes from Today
by Tobias Polzin 12 Feb '20

12 Feb '20

Dear all, thanks that you took time for our discussion. As Gaby said "it was a great WE-feeling and lot of energy for our team." Attached you will find minutes that Gabi and Alex have noted (thanks!) and the zoom recording link. https://zoom.us/rec/play/usctfrqt-mk3SICXsASDAvEoW9XpL6Os2nVI-_ILzkrnBnQHOl… Reminder: You can reach us all by using "AfH-Chapters(a)lists.ourproject.org" to send a mail to us and additionally to Mauriza from Italy, Zoe from Australia and AfH in Brasil. info(a)afh.org is also part of the list, but not Mark und Alex directly. @Tegan, would you like to share some links regarding your HAPPTIVIST T-Shirts? For me the most important take aways: * Focus of current work: Face to Face contacts in local communities, using breadth and depths activities * 85000 people use the app (Tobias: although it has so limited functionality) * 90% of the leaders lead only once (although they liked it). Although it is fully appropriate if leaders inspire participants to become leaders, I still find this astonishing and worth investigating. Not new for me, but good to remember: * Support for national chapters is a long term aim for AfH, but as AfH is in the "we are making it up, while we go" mode, at current it is probably not the right timing and incoporating non-uk processes adds a lot of work (Thanks Mark, for making the comprehensible again) * Although it's not clear, how translation-friendly the new course concept will be, it's definitely welcome by all of us that AfH tries new concepts, and it's welcome by AfH international to continue to use the translated versions of the old course. Best wishes Tobias

the Art of Online Hosting
by Ruth Habermehl 11 Feb '20

11 Feb '20

Dear all, it was great to be with you this morning and hear from you. I talked about the art of online hosting, a konzept, i got to know during an online-workshop. I learned in this course, that awareness and dialogue are possible in online-groups, but have to be facilitated accordingly. This, combined with the evidence of well working online-psychotherapy, makes me appreciate virtual meetings. Amy Lenzo says: the internet is part of the real world. In the same way, virtual meetings can be very touching and allow a feeling of closenes. So i think, this could live in our meetings or in other meetings accordingly. You find in the annex three documents, two of the texts are from the course. The actual course is discribed here: http://www.theworldcafe.com/event/the-practical-magic-of-online-hosting-eve… If you have further questions or want to discuss something about it, let me know. Yours Ruth

Update on Action for Happiness for National Chapters
by Tobias Polzin 10 Feb '20

10 Feb '20

Dear members of national chapters, are you interested in an update on Action for Happiness for national chapters? Mark suggested three days in February. There is no time that is really perfect for all timezones. I suggested 8am UK time (see below). Could you give feedback within the next week (until 22nd Dec)? You may choose dates or give other comments at: https://doodle.com/poll/vkkfag776baym2hi Best wishes Tobias Polzin Timezones: https://www.timeanddate.de/zeitzonen/konferenz-detail?year=2020&month=2&day… -- Ich werde versuchen, mehr Glück und weniger Unglück in der Welt um mich herum zu stiften.
