         “Leer será tener una copia ilegal en el cerebro”

La historia de Library.nu y de su “flamante” cierre del sitio que tenía
millones de libros en línea ocurrido el 15 de febrero pasado bien podría
ser para una novela, que algún día alguien subirá a algún sitio que no
será Library.nu. Seguramente habrá algún sitio que lo reemplace. Esta
vez, la coalición de editoriales ganó la contienda en el marco de la
oleada de cierres de sitios de intercambio de archivos que ya bajó
Megaupload y apretó a The Pirate Bay, entre otros. Sin embargo, ante la
ausencia de un reemplazo considerable en relación con la oferta que
había logrado Library.nu, instituciones y organizaciones que bregan por
los derechos de los usuarios, profesores e intelectuales se preguntan si
el daño sobre el acceso a la cultura no es mayor que el daño al “derecho

       Las primeras webs denunciadas por la ley Sinde: está SeriesPepito;
       no está SeriesYonkis

La industria cultural ha comenzado a presentar denuncias contra webs con
contenidos protegidos con derechos de autor ante la Sección Segunda de
la Comisión de la Propiedad intelectual, en funcionamiento desde el
pasado 1 de marzo, y ya hay una lista de unas 25 páginas webs

       La SGAE no denunciará a webs por la ley Sinde

"Estamos en una etapa donde los esfuerzos y recursos tienen que estar
puestos en un proceso de cambio", afirma el portavoz de la SGAE, en
referencia a las próximas elecciones que se celebrarán el 26 de abril
para elegir a sus órganos de dirección tras la crisis por el supuesto

       La primera denuncia de la ley Sinde, la de un músico que quiere
       demostrar su "ineficacia"

Navarro presentó a las 9 horas de este jueves una denuncia ante la
Sección Segunda de la comisión de la Propiedad Intelectual contra 210
webs por enlazar una de sus canciones con copyright compuesta
expresamente para esta acción, ya que el músico compone fundamentalmente
obras libres de derechos. Esta iniciativa forma parte del proyecto
promovido por la organización Hacktivistas y su página web
wertdeenlaces.net, la cual animaba a los usuarios a compartir el enlace
a esta canción protegida para saber cómo actuaría la nueva norma legal.

       El gobierno alemán pretende cobrar a Google por mostrar fragmentos
       de noticias

Al igual que lo hiciera Bélgica en el pasado, una nueva propuesta en
Alemania acaba de ser lanzada por el gobierno. Absurda si tenemos en
cuenta que Google no cobra por sus servicios de Google News y aún más
absurda si pensamos cuál es el fin que se busca. Alemania propone que
Google pague a las editoras por la inclusión de fragmentos periodísticos

       BT and Talk Talk lose file-sharing appeal

The internet service providers (ISPs) had argued the UK's Digital
Economy Act was incompatible with EU law. The Act will mean ISPs will
have to send warning letters to alleged illegal file downloaders, as
well as potentially cutting users off. The creative industry argues that

       Tech Groups Propose Changes to TPP to Promote Internet Freedom

At this week’s Melbourne round of TPP negotiations, the Computers and
Communications Industry Association (CCIA) — representing tech companies
like Google, Facebook, E-Bay and Yahoo — has been circulating a new
proposal for adding copyright limitations and exceptions to “permit the
smooth functioning of the Internet.” It is incredibly well researched

Despite the arrests of dozens of suspected members of Anonymous and its
offshoots worldwide, it is far from diminished. Nor have most of its
corporate targets been irreparably damaged by the attacks. Rather, what
Anonymous has done, experts said at the big RSA computer security
conference here last week, is raise the alarm about the unguarded state

       'Irish Sopa' legislation passed despite robust opposition

The Irish government has passed into law controversial copyright
legislation that internet freedom groups have called a new form of
censorship. Seán Sherlock, the Labour minister for research and
innovation, signed the legislation to amend copyright law in Ireland.
Opposition to the legislation – called by critics the "Irish Sopa" after
the US Stop Online Piracy Act – has been robust. Ireland is a major
global hub for companies such as Google and Facebook, which are among
the biggest employers in Dublin, and some in the hi-tech industry
believe the changes could curb the growth of online business in the
